Surname names...


Prefer those names to the likes of Jayden, Kayden and Jaxon. (Apologies to anyone with kids called Jayden, Kayden or Jaxon). Leighton seems to be popular in Newcastle West.
 
If most people looked back in their family tree it was so common and traditional to use surnames. You could often have the mothers maiden name, the grandmother's maiden name, etc Not just in rural areas like Weardale but down I'm the towns and cities. Weardale had loads of great first names like, Peart, Stobbs, Vickers, Baty, Emerson , Bainbridge, ,Featherstone,

Torquil (yes, I know - I think it is Scottish Gaelic)

If you are called Craig Thomas theres a good chance you'd be Welsh. If you were called Tommy Craig there's a good chance you'd be Scottish.
