Super League - Saudi style

Really looking forward to the Super League. Get these super rich pawn used clubs out of our League's and let football return to the fans, back to level fields.
That's not going to happen, i hate to break it to you all, this myth that once the big club's are gone etc etc, they won't need to go, they had the chance during the pandemic, and fluffed it, the day's of a level playing field is over, and what's not to say that in a few years time, we our selfs, have unlimited money behind us, unless you think KLD and JS, will hang around forever, its far more likely that when we return to the premer league another investor comes in, who they know, possible saudi money or Qatar, or other, the truth is football is political now, and clubs are ten a penny to the nation states to buy.

Although I'd love to see man city and Chelsea etc .. fuck off to a super League, I can't help but think English domestic football will come out of the deal worse off.

We'll be stuck with the reserve sides of those clubs in our league, which will make it difficult to take seriously. The domestic cups will become utterly pointless.

Here's 15 teams that you probably have to have -
Ajax
Benfica
Real Madrid
Barcelona
Bayern Munich
Borussia Dortmund
Juventus
Inter
AC
Roma
PSG
Man City
Man Utd
Liverpool
Newcastle (given we assume the Saudi's run it)

This encompasses only six countries and has some big teams missing from even those nations. I think the appeal is limited and any larger and I don't see how you can run League fixtures and remain in the Premier League. And that's before the financial gain of these clubs breaking the Premier League by creating an even more destructive asymmetry between the Super League teams and the rest of the division. It would kill the Premier League. I really can't see how it would work for teams to remain in domestic Leagues.

Certainly the likes of Real, Barca and PSG don't want to remain in their leagues and will want a bigger super league than this to capitalise on the revenue, but it won;t work to be bigger and stay in the Premier League.
You could possibly take the German Clubs out due to the fan ownership. Roma as well, so in a 20 team league that would leave 8 places for say Santos, Boca Juniors, USA Team, Australian Team, Asian Team, Mexican team, 2 from African Nations and there is a world league with at least 1 representative from each continent

I don’t think PSG in the current ownership structure (Qatar) will play along…

Bayern showed no interest last time, and the German ownership structure would make that difficult (not impossible).

It would be funny to see Spurs miss out mind - and I am sure Arsenal would be in
And Chelsea
Yes those points are pretty valid but that reduces the appeal then doesn't it? Down to four nations and topping up to make half the super league with English teams. It seems daft and limited.

Yes, I think a world league has more legs, but a 20 team league with fixtures across the world couldn't work with being in the Premier League could it?

Personally i think they w ill want a World Super League as it would make more money / sportswash over a longer period and sadly i see it happening in the next couple of years
that maybe the end goal, but in the mean time, a current competition that already exists, you see what i mean ?

50,000 Screaming ‘Geordies’ outside Mecca!
I do like bingo as well mind

Yeah… this is very feasible too

If I was them in charge I'd seriously consider what makes football so appealing, and protect that. Unfortunately, I don't think they are savvy enough.

Its alright taking all the big clubs from Europe and banging them in a closed shop, but it will soon get even more boring than the current champions league when it's the same few clubs and players on TV endlessly... People will switch off eventually and then what ?

The massive appeal of the premier league worldwide is how genuine it appears... Grand old clubs in grand old stadia, the history and aura of the pyramid etc..

Luton getting into the premier league is more exciting to most people than man city winning it

They'll bleed it dry and turn it into a circus and eventually it will be unrecognisable

How many people are going to watch the 6th, 7th, 8th season of closed shop super League ? It'll become a side show like F1

Course it doesnt work alongside it, everyone knows that. However football is a global game and fans in Asia would go nuts if Man Utd played Real Madrid in a league game somewhere in Asia. Clubs make more money from tourists and overseas fans than they do from us mere loyal home based fans.

The ball is rolling now and its a case of how quickly it continues imo.

Yes local fans will protest, but do the owners really care when they can make untold millions without the annoying FFP restrictions?

There isn't the time for them to compete in another League against the great teams of Europe and the Premier League.
The so called Super League clubs won't be leaving the Premier League at all and that has never been the plan despite numerous clueless posters on here constantly claiming that they will be leaving the EPL, how many fecking times does this need pointing out before it sinks in. 😡

The Super League clubs would then have vast financial yearly
revenues and would literally be able to mop up the best talent worldwide so that they could have enough top quality players with basically 2 squads to be able to compete in both the EPL and the Super League, be careful what you wish for.

No one in Asia etc is going to get excited to watch Luton v Bournemouth, they want Man Utd v Man City etc

This is a very important comment!! It is not beyond the bounds of possibility for the PIF to buy the Prem (or have influence)

They'll simply put a secondary team in the domestic league and use it as a testing ground for the super League. Its not too different from what we have currently. The big clubs have massive squads and not enough games to bed in youngsters

We'll have the premier league with us and Burnley etc . Playing week in week out against man city and Chelsea reserves. Those players trying to prove themselves for a shot at the first team game in the super League

No way will English teams fully leave the domestic leagues . They'll treat the premier league they way the currently treat the domestic cups

I think it is only a matter of time, and I do think that there is even more reason for the opportunists like Real and Barca to get behind it.

And thus be able to play in both at the same time, one team playing fixtures in the premer league and the other in the world super league. 🤔

But for how long? Are they going to tune in to man city v man United for 17th time in one season ? It might be popular at first but it will soon get boring for the vast majority of fans
But when it's a 20 team league with a cup competition with all the best players in the world playing people would tune in and advertisers would pay money.

How much do premier league rights go for? And how many times do the big clubs dominate the TV matches?

which makes you wonder, when the football league becomes.. out of date.
