Lots of old factory units being demolished round there at the moment......
Anyone know if there Are redevelopment plans for the area?

I have no information, but am happy to see these units go. The area has been in a state of dereliction and ruin for years, and needs starting from scratch.
For me these areas illustrated how Sunderland's city center literally "shrank" with decline, leaving areas of it empty and redundant.
I’d rather have a compact and vibrant city centre rather than some sprawling half empty effort.its prime land for development in the city centre. Needs to be reclaimed into the city centre and hopefully the skyline can have some nice additions.
Its rumoured to be earmarked for affordable housing but im not sure about this. Its the wrong place for this. I think they should look to do something ambitious with the land rather have some that will restrict growth of the city centre.

We should look to grow from Vaux/Empire/Sunniside/Bridges, get these areas pumping and if that means bringing in housing into the city centre borders then so be it. Traditional city centres are mostly dead, we should look at entertainment/cultural/jobs to grow this city.
Always 2 sides of every story there like.I have no information, but am happy to see these units go. The area has been in a state of dereliction and ruin for years, and needs starting from scratch.

Agree but the public haven' bought into it<<<I rather it grew on the periphery of the city centre with apartments to compliment the places like the empire ...... the city centre needs to grow in complexity and what it offers...not just have retail in a compact space it needs to have people living around the centre. Hence why apartments are an important means of growing centres
Vaux > housing > improved and more businesses due to increased footfall.<<<I rather it grew on the periphery of the city centre with apartments to compliment the places like the empire ...... the city centre needs to grow in complexity and what it offers...not just have retail in a compact space it needs to have people living around the centre. Not much lifestyle to be had in the city at them moment I’m afraid.Agree but the public haven' bought into it
echo 24 ,quayside and the stuff above the casino is largely tenant based after being introduced as Lifestyle living, the Mowbray hotel and old post office were similar
Thought it had anything you could ever need ? The echo 24 and post office etc was timed with the sprucing up of sunniside and the bowling cinema stuff, big lukes,Ask etc .The exchange on high st .It could have worked but people didn't comeVaux > housing > improved and more businesses due to increased footfall.
The Vaux site is critical to this city thriving in my opinion, and it’s a worry that things are only slowly moving with bringing in tenants for those buildings.

Just as the homes along the river at St.Peters have effectively stopped the riverside getting bigger developments between bonners raff and roker.
The city centre needs to start looking like one

I moved into one when they first opened it. Were a bit overpriced then, but a lovely apartment.I looked at a couple of flats in the old post office. They're not very good for the price they are.

sounds like it's going round in circlesRight now the city center is growing westwards, with vaux, keel square, music venue, town park, farringdom row having given that side a lot of momentum. We need to balance it out with more gains around the East.
Will never happen with an inept Labour council.Their track record of development and regeneration is very very poor to say the least. Its always jam tomorrow.its prime land for development in the city centre.
