The three signings we have made have all been done and dusted before anyone has had a chance to make something up. There is nothing to suggest our current negotiations are any different.

Congerton has said himself that we will go all of the way to transfer deadline day so I don't see what has changed. Well the mags signed someone which changes everything.

Ustari
Westwood
Bardsley
Celustka
Vergini
Cuellar
Dossena
Alonso
Colback
Gardner
Ki
Borini
Ji
Graham

take out dossena, celustka and westwood and our team as it stands would struggle to beat that team.

As he has 1,000 players in his squad? Austin was injured at the end of the season and they replaced him? Fancies another player. Blah blah blah etc etc

He looks a good player whenever I've seen him which is a few times.

Nowt like Graham

No. No they really wouldn't
Is there that much difference between that side and what we can currently put out?. I would take bardsley over jones, colback over gomez, alonso over our non existant lb, ki over bridcutt and borini over any of our forwards.
Ustari looked a solid enough keeper and plenty of people want vergini back so for me i would say just as many of the departed players would get into the current first team as the retained/new players.

We have done the right thing by getting the Bosmans in early. We will sign some loans and also spend some money. It's still early days. Beardsley is replaced. Arguably Colback already is. Gardner didn't need replacing. Gomez is a creative midfielder. We are well on the way to replacing that list. The ones that seem the priority are left back and whatever we see Borini as.

and that is just to stand still.. to stay the same as the team that almost got relegated. We need to improve on that to assure we stay up, and potentially improve upon that again if we want to kick on up the league.

This in bold.
It all changes when the mags sign someone - the 'bedwetters' may say they aren't bothered about the mags but they all pipe up when they agree a fee with someone and say we need at least 8 players etc

True....Graham had a PL pedigree when we signed him.

Pre-season games start in just over a week's time.........let's hope we've arranged five-a-sides initially.

And Dossena.
You can moan all you like about quality LA. It's a fair criticism. However, the only place where we are down on numbers is in defence. Even there we are only down by two on what Poyet wants.

Surely down by 3 at least given the full back situation?.
He only wants 7 with a bit of versatility in there. It allows him to have two for every position everywhere else - plus three keepers - and still keep to his ideal squad of 23. If we got Alonso and Vergini in he'd have the right mix in the squad barring perhaps one left footed winger to cover AJ. The task then will be shift out the players who aren't good enough and replace with better quality.

Minimally we need 2 lb's in and if vergini does come in as cover for rb/cd then all the better but my fear is he is already counting seb as our rb cover.

Not strictly true mate.....we had 4 players covering each of LB and RB last season.....we currently have 1 covering both. We had Cattermole, Bridcutt, Ki, Larsson, Colback and Gardner for CM and we now have Cattermole, Bridcutt, Larsson and Gomez so that's 2 down there.

Surely Gus would want more than 5 defenders to cover 4 positions.

Think he'll go for five centre halves with a couple who can play wide. Think he's looking to Jones to cover at lb, plus someone like Roberge could do a job for the odd game if pushed. He going to look to build a settled defence. So long as he's got some versatility in there to cover the odd suspension or injury he will be happy i reckon. Sensible squad building.

That's what I said. He's on record as wanting two more to make his ideal 7. Plus, just because we've lost all those players, doesn't mean we need to replace them all. A 23 man squad with 3 keepers, 7 defenders, 6 midfielders, 4 forwards and 3 strikers is what he will aim for. On those numbers we are only missing two at present. Not too small and with enough versatility to cover a couple of injuries in the same position but, crucially, not so big that we have loads of players sitting in the stands, uninvolved and disruptive while picking up a wage. Most importantly (IMO anyway) it leaves an opportunity for the development of young players that has been sorely missing for years.

Would be happy with jones as cover but was genuinely hoping this was the year we got the full back positions sorted properly i really dont see any pace/quality with roberge or jones overlapping.

He was qpr's main Striker and wasn't replaced. He's just not somebody we should be buying. He is another who doesn't really have any real qualities but is par as an all round striker. Never played at this level and a gamble. For the money it would cost, It would be a very poor signing.

Think jones will do okay. Bit of a crazy horse who will run all day. Plus Roberge is only emergency cover and may well be replaced at some point anyway. Finally there is no reason not to expect a bona fire first choice left back to come in at some point.
