Its got to be about opinions but we've strengthen in key areas with players that have generally proved themselves in the league where as they've lost their best players and replaced them with players untested in the premier league.

Not overly confident of a win on Sat, but very confident over the course of the season we'll prove to be the better side.

Darren Bent replacement?
Left winger?
Left back?

I couldn't give a shit about the finish. Top 6/7 and Europe and i'd be happy but not one point above them you stupid twat.

What matters to me is bragging rights for the derby and i'm pointing out my fears again. I want you to rub it in my face if we beat them but all i can see is a draw or a close defeat.

Im a stupid twat really?, thought your post wanted genuine responses and you got that from me, you look like a right fool now with the name calling.
You asked are we much better, i answered your question and pointed to league positions to answer you. Start again fool and ask your question correctly next time.:oops::oops:

I posted a thread with my fears before the 5-1 and was lambasted for it. October 31 came around and i was soon proved very right. Please view it below:

Newtonlee2 27th August 2010....................

.....Oh how right i was to be proven. Nolan went on to score 12 goals and Barton was one of the oustanding midfielders of the year. They both dominated us in the derby and it was totally men vs boys.

The saying i 'told you so' doesn't do make up for all the abuse i took and i expect to take the same amount with this thread.

So the question is are we really that much better?

Lets have a look at the likely starting XIs:

Newc Sund
Krul Mignolet Draw

Simpson Bardsley Draw

Collocini Ferdinand Newcastle

Taylor Brown Sunderland

R Taylor Richardson Sunderland

Barton El Mohammady Newcastle

Tiote Cattermole Newcastle

Cabaye Colback Draw (but thats being kind as ligue 1 winning french international against a young lad)

Guiterrez Larsson Draw

Ba Sessegnon (Hard to compare so i won't)

Ameobi Gyan Newcastle win but only against us

So what do we have here? 4 wins to Newcastle, 4 draws and 2 wins to Sunderland. Obviously only my opinion but i'm usually bang on the money.

Another summer and another chance to cement our status as North East top dogs sadly passed us by. I really really hope i'm wrong and we go on to stuff the horrible inbred c unts but again i just can't really see where we edge this???

What really worries is we are going to have a very young midfield against their experienced one YET AGAIN and we all know what happened last time! Bruce won't drop Elmo after his assist and we've seen him crumble in both previous derbies. He's not a big game player that lad i'm afraid.

Make no mistakes Barton will dominate and will be winding Cattermole up something rotten.

We still have a chance to do something about this. Put someone like Gardner into the mix and we suddenly have another twat in the middle with attitude and thats what you need to match Barton and co. Sorry Colback but i'd drop you for Vaughan.........very similar players but i think Vaughan's experience would help us a great deal against them.

I fear the writing was on the wall when Bruce picked his first XI for Liverpool. He doesn't learn and should always have been thinking ahead to the derby instead of firing young lads in there again when he saw how they wilted and hid in the demolition.

Haway Bruce and Quinn you still have a chance to sign a quality left winger and a decent striker. I'm sick of being second best to these twats up the road so do something about it please!

I rarely post on here but you seem to be a bit of an attention seeking cock wanting us to lose so you can say you told us so.

Darren Bent replacement?
Left winger?
Left back?

we don't need them apparently mate

Nope i'm just a pessimistic fan who gets loads of mindless abuse for it. I normally just give mindless abuse back as that is all most of the sheep know on here.

We're not going to get a direct replacement for Darren Bent, we're setting the team up in a different way and score more goals without him than with him. (check the stats from last season)

Would still love a left winger but the key priorities were physical presence at the back, goals from midfield, experience and better set pieces.

According to Anderson on Total Sport last night Ba and Cabaye were not up to much against Arsenal. He thought they were both right off the pace and Cabaye is too similar to Tiote, and both were looking to play in the same area of the pitch.

anyone claiming that we are streets ahead of the Mags needs to remove their red and white spec's.

The league table never lies as they say and it showed there to be very little between us at the end of May.

Both sides have made changes since then, and at the moment, we've no idea how succesful those changes are going to have been, but there's one thing for certain - the changes haven't suddenly propelled us into a team that will finish 10 or more points ahead of them (which if we were streets ahead of them then we would).

IT will be a tight game. IT could go there way. IT could go our way.

The one big thing in our favour could be the crowd getting right behind the players, the players being boosted by it, rather than frightened by it, and getting right into them.
dead right. some people seem to be setting themselves up for the same fall they had last october

i don't believe that there is much between the teams, however I would concede that you are generally stronger as a team. I would def swap seb for jonas, gyan for ameobi, sess for ba. you have home advantage so I can't see you losing.....obviously hope so & as it's a derby anything could happen.

Every season, at every Derby fixture, Sunderland fans come up with the usual predictions of how one sided the fixture is going to be in their favour....how they will hammer Newcastle etc.

It rarely happens.

Given the following recent record down there. It is hardly surprising that you a desperate for a win, NUFC would be if the record was read in reverse. However, despite the fact that you probably shade it in terms of squad ability, the fact is that in my lifetime, games against Sunderland are always relatively comfortable. Not all of the time, but most of the time. For that reason I am hopeful that we will give a good account of ourselves on Saturday. Why wouldn't I? It 'normally', if not always happens, I am given no reason to think that this will change at the weekend.

2010/11 drew 1-1 Nolan
2008/09 lost 1-2 Ameobi
2007/08 drew 1-1 Milner
2005/06 won 4-1 Chopra, Shearer(pen), N'Zogbia, Luque
2002/03 won 1-0 Solano
2001/02 won 1-0 Dabizas
2000/01 drew 1-1 A.O'Brien
1999/00 drew 2-2 Domi, Helder
1996/97 won 2-1 Beardsley, Ferdinand
1992/93 won 2-1 og(Owers), L.O'Brien
1991/92 drew 1-1 L.O'Brien
1989/90 drew 0-0 (playoffs)
1989/90 drew 0-0
1984/85 drew 0-0

1 defeat in 14 is quite a decent return.

It's f***ing embarassing from our perspective. Everytime i've been close to optimistic it gets shoved down my throat.

Only once did i go into the derby with total confidence at home and we won 2-1. You just knew with players like Cisse, Diouf and Yorke in centre mid we had players with an edge we had lacked for years. Those 3 with their big game attitude won that game for me. (before anyone starts yes Diouf is crap but he won the free kick that gave us a win for the first time in 30 odd years and never bottles or hides!)

To be honest, I'd class them as a bit of an unknown quantity. Changed a lot since last time and a game against Arsenal isn't really a realistic assessment.

At last someone who is thinking level headed, for what its worth based on my opinion on the players head to head and using your criteria here is my prediction :

Newc Sund

Krul v Mignolet Newcastle

Simpson v Bardsley Sunderland

Collocini v Ferdinand Newcastle

Taylor v Brown Sunderland

R Taylor v Richardson Newcastle

Barton v El Mohammady Newcastle

Tiote v Cattermole Newcastle

Cabaye v Colback Newcastle

Guiterrez v Larsson Sunderland

Ba v Sessegnon Newcastle

Ameobi v Gyan Sunderland

Result Newcastle 7 v 5 Sunderland = Newcastle to win by 2 clear goals, hope this doesnt work out

How the fuck can a comparison of the starting ELEVENS end up in a 7-5 verdict in favour of Newcastle?
