Aside from all the violence talk the nerves would be unbearable, the normal derby is bad enough, its the worst........unless you win.
Would make sense to have it moved to Old Trafford as there is two completely different routes on both the motorway and train for fans to get there
We got to the SF the next year too, beating the Mags 2-0 at Sid James on the way (QF's) despite having suffered two losses in the league to them (including a heavy 6-1 loss at RP). Lost to Brum who we beat twice in the league that year.Me dad was at Hillsbrough for the SF. The 50's were very much a case of "nearly" for SAFC.
Thinking about it as well, it would have been Flo, Reyna and Thome at one point. They must have been on the pitch at the same time. Interesting question though.
I'm still chuckling a bit at the OP, it would be ridiculous and almost impossible to police.
It would be one of the greatest games of football played, for the winning team that is.
We'd both get very bad press after it mind, The capital would get trashed, transportation system in disarray, world cup bid revoked, english teams banned from europe.
All worth it if we won though![]()
In the 80's I went to the Mercantile credit classic (I think it was called). 10 teams (I think) all playing at Wembley over a whole weekend, a knockout competition to celebrate 100 years of the footy league. Newcastle & Sunderland both qualified for the comp and there was bother, mainly caused by Sunderland.
Our drunken coach happened to stumble upon a coach load of Mags at a service station, this resulted in the mags shitting themselves at the sight of 50 drunken lads between 17 - 40 yr old scaring the shit out them while they ate their chips. 2 more mag coaches came to the services and then to add some flavour a leeds & a wolves coach pulled up. Everyone was braced for WWIII until some lad threw a football down and we all started playing the largest game of footy since Christmas day during the war.
At the ground me and my m8's were actually knocking around with 3 mags, they were canny lads, just out for a good weekend, same as us really. We invited them to come into the Sunderland end assuring they would be ok, they lasted 30 seconds and had to run like shit, maybe it was the Mirandinha sombrero![]()
Now am not taking the blame at all but this triggered off quite a few Sunderland fans who walked around to the other end of the ground and went into the Newcastle end, a few fists flew but it triggered off the leeds fans who then came over to the Sunderland fans. We were next to Sheff Wed and tranmere, the sheff wed fans started singing about Yorkshire and it looked like they were going to join with Leeds. Tranmere were clearly with us, great set of lads but Wolves who were next to tranmere were starting to taunt the Leeds....it all nearly ended in a riot but eventually it died down.
So the moral of this story is when Sunderland and Newcastle fans are together there will be bother, no matter when, where or how.
Is the correct answer - I woz in Germany for the euros 1988 and all the England fans were together except for Sunland/scum fans who insisted on fighting each other

There was a few of us went to Germany for the WC in 06 and met a few Mags over there. We had a bit banter on, had a fair few drinks with them and taunted each other with songs about each other after so many drinks and there was no bother. Then on the last night we met up with the same lads and had a few drinks and 3 daft Mags spotted us and started cracking on with us then we started the singing up again and these 3 daft Mags took offence and started kicking off so the 5 lads we were with originally stood up and nutted the 3 lads. Just proves we can mix.
Good times![]()
I wouldn't like to think what the police operation would cost. Separate trains and busses laid on. Designated service stations..
Or they could knock all that on the head and just let people get on with it.
Theres loads of Sunderland and Newcastle mix fine in the pubs around here on non match days. But its totally different on derby days. I'd imagine it would be the same all the way down to London if the supporters weren't segregated. Chaos.
