*~*~* Sunderland v Blackburn match thread *~*~*

Strange game.

They ripped us open early on and probably could have gone a couple of goals ahead. As something happens in those kinda games, we got a goal against the run of play but we had just started to come into it.

We do look threatening when we go forward, we just look very open. The loss of Ekwah probably explains a lot, Jobe is expected to drop deeper, as is Pritchard but they haven't always done that well and our back 4 have looked very exposed.

Blackburn also moved the ball way quicker, looked way more tuned-in and just playing with more tempo.

We've started to get a grip though, had a bit of possession and we've been able to disrupt their passing out from the back. We actually could have had another goal or two but obviously so could they.

Mixed bag performances-wise, the Ballard block was ridiculous, he's been an absolute powerhouse. Dan Neil on his own in midfield too, playing really well and Clarke is such a threat.

They’re a good side but we were nowhere near them for half an hour especially down our left flank.
We tightened up a bit and hopefully that’ll carry on because we can definitely create against these.

Have only been able to find the Blackburn stream.
Apparently they have been so far ahead of us they should have been about 4 up at half time.
Every foul we commit should be a yellow.
Also when Ballard got injured they were initially calling for him to be booked for fouling the keeper. 🤣
Yes, I'm watching that as well. But remember they are a young team - oh the irony :D. Boring fucktards the both of them!

Good performance from the boys, under the cosh for the first 20 minutes, but we gradually worked our way into the game, f***ing internet dropped out just before the start of the game, so missed the first ten, we do have some fine young footballers at our club now, they're a pleasure to watch.

We've been good going forward. Terrible at the back and dodgy in the middle. Tony needs to shore it up.
I'm doubtful that Ballard will come out second half which would be a massive worry. He seemed to be restricted in his running after being clattered by their keeper. I'll be very interested to see on the highlights whether the keeper fouled Ballard because my immediate thoughts were penalty. The commentator guessed that the keeper got the ball.

While they're brilliant going forward we can punish them on the counter..I'd bring Roberts on for Ba...and whoever designed and was responsible for the names and numbers on that kit needs shooting!
A lot of the way we got back into the game was Ba's excellent play after they scored???

Came back into it as the half went on, settled I guess. Dan Neil excellent, Blackburn a good footballing side, should have scored more than one.

Think we’ve finished our chances well, would say Blackburn edged the first half.

He only started touching the ball in injury time. Was good once he was involved but for 45 minutes he was (along with Huggins) our worst player on the pitch

He gave the ball away so much and so easily for most the first half it was ridiculous. He does have a tendency not to be strong enough when receiving the ball, especially with his back to goal innthe centre of the pitch. When he's in possession of it or making runs further up the pitch towards the opposition goal he's often a different player. Thankfully he's picked up later on.

Whatever the plan was shape-wise, it fell apart a bit. Seemed to sort ourselves out by the end. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was a half-time change, maybe Pritch off, Hume in the middle, and bring another defender on.
