Sunderland to seal Dong deal

They'd also prefer him to go to Bolton, which considering where they finished in the league and the size of the respective clubs, shows that they don't know what they are talking about.

I didn't say they did.

I would Lee's success at Bolton makes them trust more.

excellent signing, this time last year all the kids were mincing about with "bent" wrote across their backs.

"dong" is much more masculine and will stand them in good stead for the future. for this reason alone it is worth the 600k fee. the local clergy will be delighted

The best post in ages

I don't see why they'd think him being the same nationality as Lee would mean he'd be any more successful there. Just look at the Ghanaians we've had, Gyan a hit and Muntari a miss.

There was also the fullback who was at PSV with Park and then went to Spurs whose name escapes me, he wouldn't have adapted more or been more successful in the PL if he had joined Park at Man Utd or gone to where there was another Korean, like Boro or Reading.

lol that hodori has a right bone on about us, this is why i hate f***ing overseas fans. Hes saying he should go to bolton or newcastle ffs. Did they even check the f***ing final league table.

some nutter from that forum said:
Seriously, WTF!? Sunderland is now flush w/ cash. If Sunderland can sell an unproven, only good in 5 matches, talent like Henderson for £20M, surely they can offer more for a player that is INFINITELY more talented and accomplished at the international level.

Is he a big Dong?

If he's as big as Crocodile Dundees mate of the same name I can see him doing serious damage.
However that's highly unlikely and in my book a good big uns always better than a good little un, Messi being the exception of course.
I don't understand everyone raving about Park.
He's a decent grafter and very little else.
Never seen a player so far out of his depth as he was against Barca.
Of all the Utd players, his performance was by far the most embarrassing.

True that, but if a Ghanian had to make choice between Sunderland and Bolton, I am pretty sure the Ghanian fans would want him to go to wearside.

He's right though in a sense, he is infinitely more accomplished at international level, having scored 6 goals in 11 games or whatever it is. more talented? don't know enough about him, but he seems talented.

The only really ridiculous thing they are saying is that we are insulting them by paying so little. football is a business, and you pay the lowest amount possible. It is Chunnam's fault for the low buyout value. They mustn't have valued him very highly when they agreed the contract. If their value raised then they should have offered him a better contract, and changed the value of the buyout. If they think any other clubs would have paid more without having to then they are living in dreamland.

I hope this transfer comes off because I really do think he looks like a talented footballer, and I hope he comes here and becomes the next Korean star in Europe. I hope Korean fans will realise that English people having a laugh about eating dogs shouldn't really be taken insultingly. For many people in England, the fact that many people in Korea eat dog meat is the first thing that comes to their minds. I've eaten dog meat myself in Vietnam and I can tell you it was a pretty good meal. Wouldn't order it all the time mind you. English cuisine is laughed at by many Europeans and put down, just like the English tease the Scottish about deep-frying everything. Although a little silly that this is the first thing people think about, I don't think it can be racist unless someone says "Koreans aren't as good as us because they eat dog meat."

If this transfer comes off I personally would like to invite the Koreans from that board to join up here and give us the lowdown on JDW. You will hear lots of jokes about penises and dog meat, but I'm sure you can be thick-skinned enough to cope. You will have half the board believing he is crap and useless after one bad game. Half this board are absolute morons, but if you sort the wheat from the chaf you can usually get some pretty good debates and discussions about football.

Oh, and SAFC is a good option for him to come to, exactly because we only have 1 fit striker at the moment. Any new strikers we buy will all have just as much chance to prove themselves.

Good, sensible post.

On the racism issue, I'm almost certain it's not racist to see that Koreans eat dogs. I don't even know if they do...but food is food and I have nothing against eating dog, I'd probably do it if I was in Asia someplace.

I'm Irish and if people started singing songs about potatoes about me, I don't think that's racist. Possibly a stereotype but it's not insulting to say that you eat potatoes...or for that matter, dogmeat.

I hope Dong is a great player for us, though they were saying he's not the finished article yet, in comparison with Lee Chung-Yong anywa.y

THERE'S ONLY ONE Ji Dong wOOOn
THERE'S ONLY ONE Ji Dong wOOOn
Walking Along, Singing A Song
Walking in a Ji Dong Won-derland

Well done. But I was hoping that we would just sing the one note - 'Dong!' - like the chimes at the start of News at Ten. This would be a first.
