My dad used to be in the SVLB when he was alive. Fantastic views from the station but the concentration levels needed when on watch seemed to be off the scale. Hats off to all of them for the work they do.

Maybe you are thinking of the coastguard, which following the closure of tynemouth MRSC is closer to the truth, the RNLI are not the coastguard though

Have the RNLI ever been funded?

I know a few people who are on MR teams and they don't want funding from government as it then restricts their ability to do what they do best

Years ago I posted a thread about the rnli and got slated for not knowing that they got government funding, still don't know if they do or not but the abuse was fun
