Donald and co!

How they’ve managed to clear the decks of historic failures while being a kick away from a (shite) cup and promotion is incredible. Rodwell, kone, dilly etc.

Managed to drive season ticket sales to a higher level than in the championship!

To have the club, In a position where billionaires are interesting in buying us is unbelievable! All this talk of Donald ruining a deal. We probably wouldn’t have a club if it wasn’t for these guys. And to think we are now abusing them, personally, makes me sick. It’s utterly pathetic. Have a word.

We look like a bunch of absolutely spoilt brats. Any fan outside this area would put us in the same bracket as Newcastle fans. No greater insult.
This, sadly.

There is not one single successful club that doesn't have more demanding fans than us.

I think that a large part of the issue that people fail to take into consideration is FFP. This is a relatively recent thing, which hasn't really affected us until recently (well, it has but it hasn't if you get my meaning!). SD and CM have gotten us back on track in this regard and have had to pay for a lot of ES' shortcomings alonng the way. Do you think that MSD would have even entertained the thoughts of meeting up for talks with us a couple of years back?

I agree they shouldn't be getting abused and have probably done a good job off the pitch, although too much smoke and mirrors for anyone to honestly know how good a job they've done. However, a football club exists for what it does on the pitch and this is the area they've failed at so far and are now at a crossroads where they need to make one of the most important appointments in our history. And yet, it's looking like we're going for a cheap option in someone with a poor record who the vast majority of fans who've answered polls, don't want. They're gambling with the future of the club and that's without speculating on what has gone on with the investment/turnover saga.
The honeymoon period is over, they have to deliver, and quickly. They can't live on what they've allegedly done off the pitch financially, forever.
Well said that man, personally I don’t think Donald and Methven are here for any other reason other than to make money (nowt wrong with that) whether that be now or in the future, obviously success on the pitch will improve the appeal of their product, currently it appears we’re being morphed into a fully fledged League One outfit becoming less appealing by the day.

Looking through this thread and agreeing with points on both sides I just hope whoever comes in as the next manager is given a chance regardless of what you think of him now, there's some posters salivating at the thought that it might be someone they can get stuck into from the off (incidentally most of these will be the ones who were shouting for Ross' head ) this is a massively important time for the club and needs everyone behind it from the off to see if we can get a bit of bounce, laying into the new manager or the owners at this juncture will see us continue to struggle. Dunno if this is the right thread to post this but there it is, now where's me tin hat.?

of course you are absolutely right and we will need the new manager bounce to get us into the top 2 and hopefully finish the job of. The RR podcast was an absolute massive faux pas and has divided the fans whereas the opposite was needed, however we now need to just get on and get out of this shit league

We had the worst season in Sunderland AFC’s entire history last season. By a distance.

We’re currently 9th.

Newcastle fans are stupid because they’re whinging with their team in the premier league. We’re just above mid table in the third division.

But yay, ticket sales
To be fair, though, our position now and last season is the consequence of years of mis-management before - we can’t solely blame the current owners for that. (Well, some clearly do, but that’s far too simplistic).
Plus, we could now be even worse.

Obviously we all want better, now and in the future, but let’s not be too myopic about things.

Absolutely agree. 100%. We should be ashamed of ourselves. We laugh at the Mags? We are far worse.

I don't want to have a go at SD as I don't think anyone one else would have taken it on at the time but there are a couple of things that confuse me.
People keep mentioning that we are debt free, although it pains me to say was down to Ellis Short.
Getting rid of the high earns, well other than cattermole and oviedo the rest refused to come back.
SD paid £15 million of his own money the rest of the money Ellis Short got was the clubs parachute payments, so I'm not sure how you pay £15 million one year then a year later the club that is in no better state than when he took over is suddenly worth £50 million.
Saying all that if he does get the investment we are hoping for I'll eat humble pie and accept that he was worth every penny hes made

I think they want us to remain in league one for many years. No idea why! They’ve turned us into an average league one club. The sooner they are gone the better. Appointing Parkinson will be the beginning of the end for them. The fans need something to give them a lift. A long ball, boring dull manager who yes has achieved promotion from here before. 11 years apart but failed massively in the championship isn’t going to do that. It’s the cheapest option available to them and it’s looking like he’s also a yes man for the recruitment team (who for some bizarre reason are helping choose our next manager)

How on earth do you come to this theory?

I can just imagine SD and CM sitting there one evening over a brandy saying "Here's a good idea, lets buy Sunderland and ensure that we do our best to keep them in league 1 for years to come"

The team needed pace and creativity in midfield. We signed George Dobson. We needed some pace on the wing, we signed Nee fucker. This recruitment team have signed 6 Centre backs. Sorry make that 7. We're weaker in both full back positions than last season.

It's not all bad though Willis looks decent as does McNulty.

How anyone can't see problems with recruitment is beyond me.

I appear to be missing the utter scorn shown towards SD, the demonstrations etc and interpreting it as a couple of annoyed people and a set of fans questioning if the club is being ran correctly.

But yea... mags.

I don't think any fans looking from the outside would think Parkinson would be a good appointment to drive us to promotion. Its the same as Newcastle appointing Bruce. Most of us have been following us for a long time and can see that Parkinson doesn't seem to offer anything more than Ross. You can see something different in Ainsworth, Cook, Stendel and Pearson but not with Parkinson. The only acceptable outcome this year is promotion. I've no problem with Donald at all BUT it is expectable for us to be bitterly disappointed if we appoint Parkinson - a manager seen as dull and defensive by Bolton fans.

Apparently so, I think if I saw something as full of hyperbole but critiscing Sd as the op, then maybe it would be fair.
I think that's part of the problem to be fair.

People have made up their own minds regardless of what is said by those who know the truth (not saying they've told it, but they know it).

At the end of the day people will have their own opinions. There are some who think the owners are chancers, others who think that they are gods. There's also a few that realise that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Abuse and threats to the owners because we haven't achieved what some fans feel we deserve is pretty poor in my opinion.
