Sunderland fans! Hew!

I agree they shouldn't be getting abused and have probably done a good job off the pitch, although too much smoke and mirrors for anyone to honestly know how good a job they've done. However, a football club exists for what it does on the pitch and this is the area they've failed at so far and are now at a crossroads where they need to make one of the most important appointments in our history. And yet, it's looking like we're going for a cheap option in someone with a poor record who the vast majority of fans who've answered polls, don't want. They're gambling with the future of the club and that's without speculating on what has gone on with the investment/turnover saga.
The honeymoon period is over, they have to deliver, and quickly. They can't live on what they've allegedly done off the pitch financially, forever.

They haven't failed so far on the pitch. They inherited such a sh!tstorm that last season could easily have seen us floundering around mid table or worse. We actually over achieved by challenging as we did although arguably, having done so in the first half of the season, we should have got over the line. This season it was reasonable to expect better and Ross has paid for that with his job - he certainly isn't the only one to blame for the lack of progress. The required investment wasn't made in the summer and it leaves whoever takes over with a real challenge between now and January.

We had the worst season in Sunderland AFC’s entire history last season. By a distance.

We’re currently 9th.

Newcastle fans are stupid because they’re whinging with their team in the premier league. We’re just above mid table in the third division.

But yay, ticket sales
TBF we twisted even we were always fighting relegation from the PL

And I will react when someone asks 'are you a fan' and it hasn't been all good in the last 12 months and some of the football has been turgid even for the most loyal of fans
I said are you a fan because you asked what our clubs strategic plan was. We’ve never had the insight we’ve had under Donald. He’s told everyone his plan. When investment is required, the fact that FFP is vital going forward and we’ve got a jump on it, what type of investment he wants . I can’t be bothered to continue

Had to do the first bit because they couldn't afford not to. Failed on the second bit last season and allowed the manager to continue after blowing a major opportunity to do so. Scatter gun approach to signings hasn't exactly improved those chances ! For this to work for him assuming he sees a long term future is to get this club by the scruff of the neck and shake it up ! Get rid of his lackies and jobs for the boys and remember what someone said 'the piss taking stops now'

What is this "scattergun approach" thing you keep mentioning?

We needed a more attacking central midfielder, we got one.
We needed a new striker that can score goals, we got one.
We needed a new central defender that was better than last season's, we got one.
We needed a new left-back, we got one.
We needed a new right-back, we got one.

I don't see how this is "scattergun". To me it's all targeting positions where we needed new players and buying(or loaning) them.

Yes, we failed to get promoted, but not by much. We were one result away from success. To me that's not worthy of the criticism you're giving them for it, nor a reason to sack the manager instantly without giving him another chance. Especially not when his record with his previous two clubs was better in his second season than the first season in both cases.

The "piss taking stops now" comment was to do with players being signed for us that were given hideously huge wages because they didn't actually want to play for us. They've done exactly that and brought in players that want to be here. Not sure how you're twisting that into a negative that's unrelated to the original meaning.

Mate stick you’re head I’m the sand 😂

:lol::lol:

No I'm the sand! ;)

It wasn't just the first half of the season, our January recruitment was poor but we somehow managed to get into a great position with about 5 or 6 games left and somehow finished 5th. We then didn't bother turning up at Wembley. The summers recruitment has been poor, or a lack of tactics and motivation can't get the best out of them, it's one or the other. Either way, on the pitch can't be looked at any other way than a failure, it's L1 remember.
Either way, we've left ourselves with a mountain to climb and a critical appointment to make.

Let's wait and see what happens with the managerial appointment and the failed takeover which has been downgraded to an investment opportunity before lavishing them with undue praise.

Absolutely spot on. It’s not bad decisions, it’s the realisation that we’re L1. We have replaced champ and prem players with L1 players on lower&shorter deals, why?? Because we’re a L1 club! If we didn’t approach the finances the way we are, we would be risking our existence on promotion. Completely irresponsible

Nail on the head again.

Ross has gone, so the OP starts another attention seeking, hysterical, fan-bashing attempt at fishing for likes. This time it’s about criticism against the owners.

Oh, and the same ‘like the Mags’ bollocks thrown in.

You could almost cut and paste the other opening post in the thread WM started about Ross and just exchange the names.

Give it a rest, ffs!

The point is last season has to be put in context of where we expected to finish when we were relegated and Short left - at that point I'd have grabbed 5th with the bonus of the CT final so failure for me on that score. This season I totally agree.

Does L1 mean no scouts, U23 in free fall, random strategy free signings, no ambition?

We had the worst finish in the third tier in our history, bearing in mind we've only been in the league once before and came first the last time around, and last year was only worse by a distance of what, 4 positions?

Wow, that's some distance.

Still the worst finish in the clubs history, and that's fact, worse than the Denis Smith side, that finshed 1st and went up as champions last time around, its in stone now, simple as that, as i am sure you agree, the club failed last year to gain the target of promotion also fact.

Aka last years plan. How did counting games in hand as 3 points work out again?
I wasn’t referring to games in hand!

If we win our next 2 games then Potentially we could move into the top 2.

FYI we get 6 points for it and we are currently 4 points behind Wycombe who we play.

Unlikely but possible!
