It was a she. It didn’t go down well. Every Sunderland fan around started absolutely screaming at her and the lad who brought her, various threats issued then the stewards turned up, said “oh she’s with someone from Sunderland, we can’t do anytbing(!!)” and left them to it.

She stormed out after an hour complaining about how badly treated she’d been.

I don't blame her for storming out, what was she going to do, she was there to watch football like the rest of the fans regardless of where she was sitting. The mindset needs to change IMO

Other sports are able to sit mixed with both sets of fans. Then to try and stop tribal mentality they decided the best thing to do is split up the home and away fans into two separate packs and make physical divides between them, as that definitely stops the tribal feeling

Like they've never heard of a self fulfilling prophecy

Hence why we have good atmosphere at the match. Tribalism is the best bit man.

Yeah right. If you’re stupid enough to go in a home end with thousands of opposition supporters then celebrate when your team scores then you deserve every bit of shouting and aggro coming your way.

While I agree with this, as it hasn't, she's clueless for thinking that nothing would happen if she celebrated a Charlton goal.

There's an 'etiquette' with this kind of thing.

Yes she was watching her team and pleased they'd scored, that's fine.

But there's a point when jumping up and dancing around becomes mocking rather than celebrating.

In my experience women are the worst, at this, as they use their gender as a defence.

I expect she's quite keen on 'wrong end' action.

I'd expect that they either don't know the etiquette or simply aren't expecting men to get so angry about it.

You can have good atmosphere with mixed stands. The key to a good atmosphere is to have people sitting next to each other, you don't need metal fences between the two sets.

If you put your enthusiasm into supporting the team and not aiming it at the other fans than the atmosphere would be much much louder as both sets of fans would be trying to drown each other out.

Saying a good atmosphere is made by segregation eventually just leads to coining throwing etc.

Unless she's been living in a forest and raised by wolves she'd know exactly what to expect, as we all would.

I couldn't disagree more, nowt better as an away fan than all being together against the home team and their supporters.

I've been to 10-11 NFL games in the states and while I love it, the tribalism isn't the same there because they're all sat next to each other.

Are you saying they don't clump together in areas at all or the problem is there isn't a physical barrier between the two sets?
