The Sunderland City 10K will be held on 26th June 2011 and you can join thousands of runners taking part in this exciting city centre event. Sponsored by redspottedhanky.com and hosted by Sunderland City Council the run will start and finish at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light — taking in the city’s sights on both sides of the river, passing through the marina and along the sea front to Roker Park. A festival atmosphere will ensure an exciting day in Sunderland’s sporting calendar and if past events are an indication, the interest will be very high. An élite men’s and women’s mile race will add to the occasion and they will be chased by boys and girls age group races along the same course prior to the 10K event. This 10K race will be a wonderful addition to the portfolio of major events hosted by the city and will give the people of the region another great summer’s day out. Car parking is free to all participants and there will be special Metro services to nearby stations. Early entry is advised as there will be a limit on the number of participants.

Because they don't give a flying fuck about this city or the people that live in it, you only have to look at the city centre for proof of that, 1 in 5 shops empty, and city centre is getting smaller and smaller, I think there is an ulterior motive somewhere down the line, my opinion is they are getting paid to run this city into the ground so everybody has to go to Tynsnide to do their shopping, it's certainly going that way, the people of Sunderland need to get the red blinkers off, and vote for a party that will do something for the place, the Labour party obviously doesn't, and they've been at the helm for about 50 years, lets have the lib dems in, they've done wonders at Durham and Newcastle, even Seaham harbour is getting more investment than Sunderland FFS.

Labour would get elected in sunderland if they openly admitted to allowing funds to go to tyneside and danced round the bridges spitting in peoples faces

And what's so f***ing funny about that ? if you lived/worked in Sunderland city centre you'd think the same way, why else aren't they fighting for investment then ? if Seaham f***ing harbour can get investment then there can only be one reason they are not investing in Sunderland city centre, which has a bigger population to cater for, and would bring more money in than Seaham.

Aye well the dopey fuckers that keep voting them in only have themselves to blame when they finally bring the house of cards down, and they will.

He meant South Shields & Jarra, the Harrods of Tyneside.

Compare Shields sea front to Sunderland's, no more explanation needed really is there.

They did, they built a f***ing fountain that used to freeze up in the bad weather and had to be turned off for health and safety reasons.

My mate has been de-selected by the party as not a fit person to be a councillor, he'll piss it if he stands as an independent but as he said to me all he'd be then is a voice in the f***ing wilderness.
Party politics eh.

And that brilliant sculpture thing outside the bridges. And the iconic green thing in the river

I wouldn't get too upset about Seaham seemingly getting more investment than Sunderland. That was a wholly different case altogether. Huge areas of cheap land sold on to developers and Seaham got a massive population boom. That brought the private investment and with it public funs to support it. Sunderland hasn't had that luxury to boost it's income.

Though of course I still hold Sunderland council with a certain disdain and know they are utterly pathetic. But the people get what the people want.

Which begs the question why on earth to people vote them in time after time ???

Is the correct answer!

Our Labour councillors are selected by Labour North in Gosforth on the basis they have the intelligence and ability of an amoeba. Sunderland City council is ran by a clique of Tynesiders who consider our city to be an irrelevance - but are happy for us to pay their fat salaries.

You may mock but look at the evidence. Even our Deputy Leader of the Council Florance Anderson is a died-in-the-wool Geordie who was recently censored by the Standards Board for writing "F*uck Sunderland on her Facebook account. Then you have the likes of Peter Walls, Newcastle born & bred, who is the man behind Gentoo - an organisation that destroyed large swathes of our council house stock creating a massive housing problem and booting many locals out homes they had spent all their working lives paying for.

Then you have the head of transport - another Geordie who thinks the Monkwearmouth Gyratory and the one way system through the centre of town is wonderful.

Until the people of Sunderland boot out these feckless Labour councillors, many of whom have spent decades on the council and achieved absolutely nothing to show in that time, and replace them with a new generation of councillors committed to Sunderland our city will continue in its downward spiral until there is nothing worth saving and any potential this town has is gone for good.

Cheers for that,Unfortunately now matter how obvious the problems are and how inept the council are running this city ( all be it in to the ground) the electorate persist in voting in the same shower of shit time after time !!!
