Sunderland consider Danny Welbeck from Manchester United

Welbeck is not a left sided player. England tried and it didn't really work.
His best position is behind the striker, linking with midfield, as he did for us last time.
Imagine Wickham driving through defences, creating openings for Welbeck.
Go get him Gus!

Why wouldn't we sign both? If we show plenty of ambition and offer the money they want they'll sign no bother.
We don't have the ambition or money to sign both, that's the problem. Can you imagine the wages Welbeck would want for starters.

Was so bad in his 1st spell here that he made his England debut during it :) He was then taken back to Man Utd by Sir Alex where he has been regularly used for years, in a variety of positions, and very often selected on the left of a front 3 in all of the big CL ties due to his pace, workrate, dribbling and because he's a superb outlet.

Is anybody genuinely suggesting that a 23 year old who has played 140 games for the biggest club in England isn't good enough for SUNDERLAND??? :)
Also, 25 PL appearances and 9 goals last season. Most of those apps coming from the bench, and the left wing.

Didn't Poyet say in an interview that we keep over looking other targets hoping Borini will make his decision? If that's the case I hope we don't over look this one, if. Borini comes I'd be happy but I'd be raging if he didn't come and Welbeck went to another PL side outside the top 6

Buy Welbeck & Loan Borini

sell Fletcher & Wickham

Thoughts?
As Lloyd Christmas put it "we'll take it"

Welbeck is a quality player, though he still clings to the striker moniker for some reason, the lad is an attacking midfielder, which is where he first played for Utd, when he scored that superb goal in the FA Cup all these years ago. He has a hell of an engine on him, can strike from distance and also gets in the box. He tracks back and was Fergies go to guy for man marking. Sounds like the ideal candidate for Gus' left side.
You forgot to mention , he only turns it on when in the mood , which is becoming rarer as he gets older , most of the time he strolls around doing fuck all which is why he can't get a start for utd even when rvp and chico are injured.

It's getting a bit late in the day to 'start considering' players.

I obviously know nothing of what goes on behind he scenes but sincerely hope our alternatives are further down the line than that

Lacklustre barring Rodwell , wonder when It starts to get desperate . Current squad will struggle

If it was a choice Welbeck or Borini I would want Borini. But I wouldn't be disappointed to get Welbeck back. Would love the club to show ambition sell Fletcher to Hull/Celtic and get both.

Why would a regular starter and England international quit man utd for us.?

Never going to happen.

Works hard for his team, so I'm sure Gus would love to have him.

No idea if the story has any credibility, as it has long been clear that most print journalists have no more idea what's going on than self-proclaimed ITKs on here - The Mail in particular just makes stuff up.
