Sunderland AFC U21s

For the third time, isn't Carney rated by the club? If you don't know just say and maybe someone else who has an idea can have an input

Carney was on the bench for the cup games so must be rated at least a little. Adam richardson went on preseason with the 1st team and was only 18 at the time iirc

I think they both have admirers. Richardson is obviously younger so has more time to develop

There's a few on here that watch a lot of the younger age groups, be interesting to hear their thoughts.

I'm curious after Hettons post saying he will be moved on

He probably is but imo he likely won’t stay, rules next year mean less over 21s allowed to play so I can’t see them playing him as it would also be blocking Richardson and Bond. Unless they keep him as a first team number 3 but even then he really needs to go and play football.

Carney is always there pre match with Patto, Bass, Barcherini so is there as 3rd choice.

I think he's looked ok from what I've seen, admittedly not much.

Edit: caught the tail end of the Boro farce and that was a shocker mind, but he's not alone on that.

Thompson and Spellman injured?

Think it might be Bond that I've seen mentioned more as the best prospect now that I think more on it.

Trying to remember which poster it is that goes to loads of the youth team games

I reckon this will just naturally happen over the next couple of seasons as a lot of the current u18s move up

I agree mate. We need to invest on the 21s though because they are the ones that we need to blood and be ready to step in when we get injuries.
At present who could we actually and honestly say would be ready to make the grade in the senior match day squad at the minute ?

Heard Thompson was, haven’t heard anything about Spellman. Small chance they both are away sorting loans out?

Bond is out on loan at a decent level for his age. I’m gonna guess that your talking about @Kernel , there’s someone else who has traveled to away games for the 18s this season but can’t think who that was.

Again just my opinion but I don’t think they will, if there is someone they can get then they might but I think on the whole it will be about moving our own up the ranks now. Clearly got talent in our 18s so I would think a canny few of those who are second years will get deals and become the 21s with back up from this years 1st years and this years 16s who will be 1st years next year.

I think carney, Richardson and bonds contracts are all due up at the end of the season. Obviously bond is on loan for the season, Cameron 1st year is also on loan.
Thought carney would have been this season, Richardson has never had a loan. Not sure on the plan for them. With all of this they usually keep an eye open for those released from other clubs too.

21s next season has good potential. 2nd year scholars who are kept on, moving up with higher performing younger ones. The ones eligible who are around the 1st team too. I think quite a few contracts expire at the end of season too, so I'd imagine a few leaving. So possibly not as many 'fillers'.
18s may struggle next season if the better ones are fastracked. Suppose its all about player development.

Agree, some great lads in our 18s though

There is. Even with the losses it is still a great team
