Those are qualities a shelf stacker from Morrisons can show every Tuesday at any 5-a-side league in Britain. He can put more effort in if he wants to, if he doesn't then it has fuck all to do with ability and all to do with attitude.

That's what I beleive too. @DufraisFTM is suggesting that Fletcher is what he is and that can't be changed......I disagree. I think there's a decent player in there and IF he so chose he could perform consistently at a higher level than he has with us. Harry Kane is no superstar.....but he's decided that he won't fail in the game for a perceived lack of effort. Wickham and Johnson are further examples tbf........Johnson himself said last January (2014) that he had decided over the New Year that he COULD do more.....and we all saw the upshot of that. They can give more if they so choose......or if someone "persuades" them to.
I'm not suggesting he can't be changed, I'm suggesting he doesn't want to. And that's part of his make up as a player. He doesn't have the desire. There's a trend here when you keep naming very, very good players. They have ability and desire instilled in them. Steven Fletcher will never play for a bigger club than Sunderland and that's down to his overall make up.That's what I beleive too. @DufraisFTM is suggesting that Fletcher is what he is and that can't be changed......I disagree. Relative to the premier league pay scale. Daft arseRelative to what? Maybe look around a bit and see that there are people living in poverty all over the world. 50k a week for kicking a ball around a field? f***ing hell...
I wonder what mpg he gets?

HahaMinutes per goal?
I reckon it's fairly shite like.
Yep, the coaching staff is a whole different argument too.I've named two other Sunderland players who fall into the same category but one of them (Johnson) showed that it just takes an awareness that you can do more as the precursor to actually doing more. This is the whole point of the criticism of Fletcher......people are pointing out that he's capable of better and should be making better judgements of how he demonstrates the wealth his job gives him. Can I say that it's also the job of the coaching staff to get the best out of players.....no-one would suggest for a minute that the team we are likely to be in contention with for a relegation slot, Burnley, have better quality than us but most of us would agree that their manager makes sure that every single one of them gives their all in every game.
