Wouldn't even like to be in the ground watching tbh. Remember being in Chelmsford once when it was around 33c° and that was a brutal struggle

I ended up burning at Headingley for the NZ test and it was about 15 degrees cooler.

This used to happen regularly at Derby until they realigned the square. Nowt to do with heat but when the sun was setting the batter couldn't see the ball leaving the bowlers hand.

Don't know if I'm remembering this correctly but wasn't one of the criteria used to determine the original members of the, then, newly-formed NEPL that the playing area had to run on a North-South axis to stop any issues with the setting sun?
Batting at the old Burnopfield ground when the sun dropped was awkward

Oh definitely, but I just have a vague memory that that was one of the reasons some clubs didn't make the final cut despite their on-field performances.
I mean, Sunderland got in, and they'd been dreadful for years prior to the formation of the NEPL.
