Summer signings to take us to the next level

My summer wishlist

Right back - Clyne - Best full back outside PL, good both defensively and going forward.

Right winger - N'Zogbia - Plays his best football when played as a right winger, not happy at Villa and could be available.

Centre midfielder - Huddlestone - I don't see him being a regular at Spurs next season and would give us that physical presence we need.

Attacking midfielder - Hoilett - I think we will be in for him but so will about another 10 clubs. Unlikely.

Forward - Fletcher - Good at holding the ball and bringing others into the play whilst also having a very decent starts to goals ratio.

Would be chuffed to bits with any of them however Clyne and Fletcher are the only two I think are remotely realistic. Hoilett in particular is a great player and is going to be in demand, especially as he is on a Bosman.

I think we'll see some signings that won't particularly set the pulses racing (e.g K.Davies link in Jan) but will be effective and help MON achieve what he wants.

We turned over £79 million whilst spending £110 million, we cant rely on selling a Henderson every year to make up some of the shortfall

Thats sort of gap in turnover and spending just simply cant continue

That was based on slightly falling crowds, finishing 10th and poor sponsorship deals, though..

If (IF) we finish 8th, thats an extra £3-4 mill in income then last year...also about £1-1.75 mill income from the cup run, Gyan's transfer fee to come into account plus better sponsorship deals.

Next's years income should be at least 6-7 mill higher, IMO and we should have a better wages to turnover ratio...

Of course we can afford to go to the next level. We just have to be more creative with how we pay players. You can still attract quality players without maxing out your wage bill. Win, goal and clean sheet bonuses will be a lot more enticing.

If we don't go to the next level, top 7, in the next 2-3 year, we've stagnated and that will be more unhealthy than 4-5 players on wages that don't match their ability.

The players to get us to that next level wont be interested in things like that man

We simply wont go to that next level because we cant afford it, where is the incentive for Ellis Short to bank roll us to 7th place. Whats does 7th get you?

We are spending to much now and we are only midtable, to get into that top 7 will take a massive leap money wise. A leap we simply cant afford.

People need to get use to it

That's just poppycock.

Guillaume Hoarau from PSG. Sessegnon's best mate and a proper O'Neill style centre forward/target man. We should move heaven and earth to get him.

What's happened with Jagielka? Has he been injured? Thought he would have started ahead of Heitinga. He's a very good defender, would love him here.

Moyes tactics m8.

Heitinga was rested last weekend at Swansea.

He would have probs come on at the 70 min mark last night and blocked it up if it was still 0-1.

Exactly. We're 2 points off 7th as things stand - that's next to nothing. The Premier League is, as Mike Ingham said on 5Live this week, levelling down if anything. We're not that far off but we do need to show a degree of realism in our signings - one or two experienced players plus one or two younger players is likely. We also need to sell one or two from areas we're overly strong in (central midfield, central defence) and strengthen other areas (the flanks, strikers).

Its a amount of money we cant afford to gamble with, where do people think this money comes from? On trees or something ffs

Better players command big transfer fees with better wages, how the fuck can we afford it when we are already losing money hand over fist.

Have we learned fuck all from Portsmouth, Rangers, Leeds who have tried to build a impossible dream with money there dont have or can afford to spend

We are not dealing with Monopoly money here

It's not that much better though to get to potentially top 7 - we need to sell a couple and buy wisely. We can also, again, use the loan system again.

And what does 7th get you money wise, a extra couple of million

To get us there and keep us there will tale more than a extra couple of million a season, Villa, Everton and failed to maintain top 6-7 places because they cant afford it. Why would Sunderland be any different?

We are going to be making a minimum of £20m from the sale of Gyan and Sessegnon alone, this is where this summers spending money will be coming from.

An extra couple of million, higher profile, players more likely to sign (if we're consistently top 10 at least), outside chance of Europe.

I don't think you're entirely wrong and I think people are being unrealistic with some of their suggestions and, I'm assuming, the lists people post are suggestions as opposed to expectations.

How about if Short fancies using that money to cut some of that deficit?

He would be perfectly in his right to do so, he wont just continue to bank roll us to the tune of the money we are losing year after year

The situation at those clubs are totally different...they all went crazy for a two to three year period. I mean Portsmouth were paying £9 million plus transfer fees for Defoe, Crouch, etc on a turnover of about 55% of ours.

Huddersfield in League one get nearly the same crowds as Portsmouth did in the prem, whilst winning the FA cup, FFS.

Plus, Rangers and Leeds were spending season ticket sales in advance and getting high APR bank loans..basically borrowing on future earnings...we aren't doing that.

Is Sess off like?

Where?

MON has already put the feelers out in the media about Sess wanting to go back to France to be with his family, be amazed if he is here next season.

If we keep losing this type of money every year marra, it will sharp catch up with us.

There is going to be a time when we have no big players to sell for big fees and then where will we be

We need to start living within our means
