Summer signings to take us to the next level

Don't know why people are suggesting Jenas, he's barely played in the last few years and never struck me as someone who had anything more about him than a good engine.

Two or three years ago, I'd have jumped at signing him but with his injuries over the last couple of years, no thanks. If we are to sign a currently injured Spurs midfielder then we could do a lot worse than thinking about Huddlestone (if Harry goes to England, especially) - big, imposing, great passer, cracking shot on him, still young, may be down the pecking order a bit at Spurs.

Yes I like McClean also. Left wing isn't position we need to look at imo

Jarvis seems to favour the left but I believe he has played on the right for periods of his career. Sure there are other right sided players we could consider.

Keisuke Honda (cm)
Seydou Doumbia. (st)

Both would cost good money from CSKA Moscow.

There's a few strange ones in this post but this is ludicrous. Giving the ball away cheapley, which everybody did last night and stumbling over Jelavic's shot apart, what has he done wrong?

Next to Cattermole, he's part of our best team when everybody's available. He's the best direct passer of the ball at the club. Would be very surprised if he is anywhere near leaving.

Phil Jagielka or Jonny Evans
Joe Bennett
Nathaniel Clyne
Jermaine Jenas
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Wilfred Zahar
Matt Phillips
Pavel Pogrebnyak
Jordan Rhodes

Rhodes has an amazing goals per game ratio this season (basically one in one), but no way would he take us to the next level.

Although, TBH, I think he's better than Wickham.

Sigurdsson with Cattermole in the centre of midfield would be great. Add a fast right winger, a striker and a fullback or two and we're there. Also a loan would be a bonus.

I'd like (either as buys or loanees):
Berbatov
Bridge
Defoe
Adam Johnson
Another recognised striker and some defensive cover.

Might need a fair bit of Ellis' dosh for that lot though

Evans - nee chance
Jagielka - nee chance even if Everton sell
Clyne - good prospect and we need a full back or two, £4m?
Jenas - do not want, sicknote, mag link
Sigurdsson - if available will have better offers or go to Swansea
Zaha - not experienced enough for me, but think he would fit O'Neil's system
Phillips - as Zaha
Pogrebnyak - good shout, what we need, how much?
Rhodes - gamble

In:
Agbonglahor
Jenas
Odemwinge
Dunne
Ridgewell
Russian bloke at fulham
Roger Johnson
Doyle
Jarvis

Agbonglahor - Would cost a fortune and for what you'd pay for him, there's much better options.

Jenas - Incosistent, injury prone, wouldn't move here and no better than our first choice options.

Odemwinge - Decent player but plays out wide nowadays, not a position we're desperate to fill.

Dunne - Approaching the age where he'd be after a massive wage packet and there'd be better options around.

Ridgewell - Stinks of mediocrity

Pog - Best on this list, worth a gamble if wages and asking price are right.

Johnson - Unprofessional and mediocre. Playing in a team in the relegation zone.

Doyle - Wages apart, Bendtner is a better option. Plays in a team in the relegation zone.

Jarvis - McClean is younger and will keep improving. Plays in a team in the relegation zone.

Transfer fee nothing, wage big. His contract at Fulham is until the end of the season.

We cant afford to go to the next level ffs, we are already spending way more than we are taking in. This needs addressing and paying for better players and bigger wages wont do this

Going to be a lot of disappointed people come transfer window time imo, we have watched Rangers go on the brink of extinction due to huge debts yet still some people dont get it and just want to spend, spend, spend

Is that really true? If you think tv money and the recent big player sales we have made..

I think we could do with cutting down on wages and making decisions with much consideration.

I think we can sell to buy to a degree this summer though...we should easily be able to spend £20-25 mill without putting the future of the club into doubt..

Exactly, just getting rid of Riveros, Angeralri, Gordon and Killgallon, players who basically aren't playing at all, will save us at least £5 million a year in wages alone, never mind transfer fees...

My summer wishlist

Right back - Clyne - Best full back outside PL, good both defensively and going forward.

Right winger - N'Zogbia - Plays his best football when played as a right winger, not happy at Villa and could be available.

Centre midfielder - Huddlestone - I don't see him being a regular at Spurs next season and would give us that physical presence we need.

Attacking midfielder - Hoilett - I think we will be in for him but so will about another 10 clubs. Unlikely.

Forward - Fletcher - Good at holding the ball and bringing others into the play whilst also having a very decent starts to goals ratio.

Rob is always wetting his knickers about something......don't take him too seriously

I agree

Just hope some of the young lads keep coming through

Think Cook will be the next to start getting some game time.

Also, what's with the love in for Clyne? Has anyone on here actually seen him for more than 20 minutes?

Of course we can afford to go to the next level. We just have to be more creative with how we pay players. You can still attract quality players without maxing out your wage bill. Win, goal and clean sheet bonuses will be a lot more enticing.

If we don't go to the next level, top 7, in the next 2-3 year, we've stagnated and that will be more unhealthy than 4-5 players on wages that don't match their ability.

We turned over £79 million whilst spending £110 million, we cant rely on selling a Henderson every year to make up some of the shortfall

Thats sort of gap in turnover and spending just simply cant continue
