Student loans

We'll agree to differ on the semantics , as far as I'm concerned i earned it and dont like paying cos someone says i didnt . C'est la vie , ill have to in the end but theyre still kernts .
Do you think the rest of us should fund your loan?

Technically yes
Now why do you think you shouldn’t pay back your loan?
Post 28 mate , principal of what they base due payment on. Anyway ive just had another look and they've upped the threshold so perhaps I'll still be just under . If not ill get a sub off you 😄

I went to university late and took student loans. Anyroad I'm now ( slightly early) retired and below repayment threshold but when my state pension kicks in I'll be above it.
Even though state pension is exempt from being counted as NI applicable income they class it as "unearned income" which isnt exempt and ill then be paying again .
Im not so much bothered at paying as the fact theyre counting 40 years of graft paying into national insurance as unearned income . Twats, its not as if im sat on a stocks portfolio and a row of rentals .
21st century , boomer problem but still its annoying , also makes me think twice about " rejoining the work force " as they want .
Your student debt will be written off when you're 65🤔

I’d definitely agree that medical degrees should be free (on completion).

That was my original point, no one is telling you you haven’t earned your state pension, pension income in general is “unearned income” it’s just the definition because there’s different rules that apply. You could be sitting on a £1,000,000 workplace pension from a lifetime of hard work and it’d still be “unearned income” when you draw from it as it’s not directly from employment.

They get proper post graduate funding, unlike most others.

Maybe, it isn't though, except if you started before you were 25, or a long time ago.
Do you think state pension is unearned income ? You havent said.
Plenty of people get a state pension and may never have contributed towards it.

I guess you could console yourself that they'll stop taking it once it's paid back

It wasn't typical. Tuitions fees were around three grand and the basic maintenance loan was less than that.
Depends how close to the end of plan 1 he did it and his circumstances.

I think it was about 10k a year by the end all told.

Year 2006-7 . Might not have been 30k to be fair , i never actually took any notice of it when i was working. First couple of years i wont have paid much back as NQ social work pay in Durham was an absolute scandal.

It wasn't and besides, he was no longer studying by then anyway.
I had no idea when he was studying when I said it. It was definitely possible to get about £10k debt per year circa 2012 when the factor in interest since then.

Now it's up to about £20k per year (plus interest).

Fucked mine off when I moved abroad and didn't pay a penny.

Then moved back and it was waiting for me plus interest that wiped out most of what I'd previously paid before moving. Ffs.
