Strikers in jan

I get sick of reading about parachute payments. Does that mean that every season we have to just accept 3 teams are going to do better than us? What a load of bollocks. Luton will be relegated. They will have parachute money. We are doing something seriously wrong if we can’t compete with Luton. If we sell clarke for 15 million on top of stewart and the winger we sold to Saudi apparently for a big fee that nobody talks about we will have brought in roughly 25 million in transfer fees . Add to that 40k through the gate every week we should be able to compete with anyone financially in this league. Stop making excuses for the club for not spending. Remember the excitement on this board when KLD came in??? How rich we were. Billionaires etc. People were excited because they thought we would spend money. Nobody would have been excited if we knew he plan was just to buy kids all the time. Imagine us trying to compete in premier league with this model.
aye mate tell that to Brighton only the most successful team coming up from the champ rn, same exact model as us

Agree with this. You can tell how exposed our defence is sometimes with such a young and naive central midfield pairing.

You just need to look at the goals we concede.

Everyone goes on about how many shots we have without scoring whereas say Plymouth had 2 shots on target and 2 goals, both worldies.

That's because the Plymouth players were under no pressure so were able to get off the strikes they wanted whereas our shots are coming under pressure with bodies between the ball and the goal.

How do you know we don’t have one Rusyn & Mayenda have only played a handful of games between them, who do you suggest we sign that is in the affordable and available bracket then?
The fact is it is now almost December and none of our forwards has scored a goal. I am not disputing one of them may come good eventually but how many points have we thrown away already, waiting for one of them to come good.
We have had since January to buy a striker who can come in from the start scoring goals. We haven't done it because we wont spend the necessary money

I think we've gone from pretty much nowt, to a critical mass in the striker department. We've brought in quite a few, granted fairly cheaply, and I just can't see there being an appetite from Speakman and Co to bring in yet more this season. The real problem for me is that we play with inverted wingers and a number 10 who mainly look to bypass the centre forward, if we have one on the pitch. I think we've got to look more at why the current central strikers are having to feed on scraps all the time.

It's a fair assessment to make. Our build up play is so slow that Clarke and Roberts are the ones that pick the ball up and run with it, there's very little in the way of thru balls or balls over the top for a striker to player off the shoulder of a defender to run onto, which often means whoever our lone striker is, they're often facing back towards goal as well as 20/30 yards away from it!

Rusyn looks to be more of a foward that's suited to playing the slow style of build up and switching around with the No.10, but Mayenda (to me) looks like he wants to be running at defenders from quick counters with balls thru and over, whilst Hemir looks suited to attacking the ball in the box from crosses being fired in to get a his head onto it. Burstow is probably a mix of both Mayenda and Hemir, but looks extremely short of confidence.

We've now got strikers, all with different attributes, but we're still not making the most of them. Time has to be given to these lads too mind. We simply haven't seen enough of any of them yet apart from Burstow.

How many chances have they wasted between them, how many times have they failed to hit the target. Take a look at chances created and shots that we have had and then try and defend 0 goals and one assist between 4 strikers brought in to replace one striker.

I'm not even going to bother getting into it with you again as its pointless. I'll happily have a discussion on this board with anyone else other than you. It's that simple, so go bother someone else thanks 👍

Not many mayenda has barely played Burstow wasn't even getting in positions and rusyn hasn’t missed many

I forgot the last time you told me not to reply to you even though it is a forum for discussion. Its maybe a fault of yours that you can't have a discussion without getting upset by somebody having a different opinion or one that is the opposite of yours on certain subjects, just a thought like🤷‍♂️

We were (roughly - transfermarkt) 7th in incoming expenditure behind
1 Leicester City (Parachute Payments)
2 Leeds United (Parachute Payments)
3 Coventry City (Sold Gyökeres for big money)
4 Southampton FC (Parachute Payments)
5 Stoke City
6 Middlesbrough FC (Sold Akpom for Decent Money)
7 Sunderland

And that's not including the new contracts for Ballard, Roberts etc

To say we dont make sizeable investments seems a little harsh.
It's Bullshit to be fair, they are constantly investing. But people want sweeties and if they don't get them they will scream and cry.

It does indeed seem to be taking a while to bring in someone who can hold the ball up and also stick a few away though. A bit of patience with Rusyn and Hemir might be required.

The only one who was really missing chances was Hemir, I think mayenda deserves a run now

I reckon yes, Mayenda and Rusyn are the two I would give some time on the pitch to.
Also consider dropping say Roberts and having two strikers on the pitch at the same time
We might, you never know, with 200 days +, the last time we had a striker scored. Also perhaps this would help deliver some goal chances from corners?

I'd rather just play ba for Roberts but I would consider doing that in games such as Huddersfield if it's not working after a hour

They all need some proper full 90 min games under their belts before getting wrote off, and our style of play often goes against a striker, rather than for one, so it's going to take time.

I like the look of Mayenda, but again he looks to be a striker who looks to play off the shoulder of defenders and to latch onto balls in front of him, and that's something we've yet to do as a team.
