Strikers in jan

We signed 3 and 1 loan gamble. The issue is that we didn’t sign any in the preceding two windows, so now we have to wait for these to get up to speed. In the meantime we have forgotten how to best use strikers and in particular we are still learning how to play with these ones. Hemir looked decent in pre season. He and Mayenda should get 45 mins each every game then they’ll be up to speed for the second half of the season. Burstow - either sign him permanently or send him back. Rusyn is a second striker.

Not expecting us to sign anyone else, unless is a replacement loan, or an experienced freebie. But I don’t know who would fit those descriptions.

Why haven’t you indicated we sold Stewart for big money yet did that for Boro and Coventry?
Because that is probably money to be spent in January and Summer. Coventry and Boro got their money and then spent it on various players. We sold Stewart way late in the window.

We won’t spend anywhere near the money we got for Stewart in January.
Yes, I agree. January doesn't tend to be the best time to spend. It will probably be spent in the summer. Personally I'd like him to pick either Rusyn or Mayenda and give them a few full 90 minutes.

Wasn't a thread when we had Stewart and Wyke smashing them in for fun. Before that Maja. Before that Defoe.

Strikers have been the least of our worries for the last 4 or 5 years.
See you only joined this year so wont know what has been posted on here, every window.

They'll just keep rolling the dice on cheap/ loan strikers hoping they'll get a double 6 , no luck with the 4 rolls of the dice so far....... anyone criticizes it gets shot down with " the model " quote.
I heard TM saying in his post match interview, that we're a work in progress, which is correct, but if we don't get promoted this season, we risk losing our best players, and we'll have to start again with another crop of kids, which I suppose means, we're always going to be a work in progress and possibly never the finished article.

That is sort of the definition of football tbh

We are scoring goals the problem I think lies with the middle of midfield. We are just lacking that player who puts his foot in and holds it together . At the moment we have 3 cracking young lads in their with a couple of back up lads who play the same to come on, but they like playing the killer ball rather ran just holding onto the ball

We’ve failed to score in more than a third of our games this season despite having controlled possession in most games. If we break the deadlock, we often get a few. But in cagey and tight games, we struggle to score.

There were only 8 games all of last season where we didn’t score. I think three of those came in the spell where Stewart and Simms were out injured. We’re currently on 6 games without a goal and we’ve only played 17.

I don't think we will bring anyone in, we will continue to hope that one of them will come good. Amad on loan might paper over the cracks again, if he hits the ground running.

I get that, and I understand the need for the club to be run sustainably.

What I'm trying to point out is that we're not too far away atm, from being realistic challengers for automatic promotion, (a few quality additions could do the trick) though if we fail to go up and lose our better players, we'll have to re-set, start again & bed in a crop of new players, which may set us back a bit, which in turn, could mean a good few more years of us playing Championship football.
