Strange question

Last night in the pub a few of us had a friendly disagreement with regards to what might happen at the end of the season. The question was "what would you rather happen, lose to West Ham last game of the season to send the mags down"? or "beat West Ham to qualify for the Europa League and the mags stay up"? 2 lads said the first outcome, 3 said the second. I could not believe anyone would rather see the mags go down than us qualify for europe but after talking about it at work today, other people had the same view as my 2 mates.

Our squad has nowhere near the depth needed for a European venture at the moment, although having meyler, Campbell and a fit mensah back would help. Fulham struggled really badly when they qualified for the same reason. That doesn't even take into account losing loan signings at the end of the season

You are joking right? If we got to Europa final I'd combust with excitment, not call it a struggle.

has to be europe, imagine 15,000 safc fans in madrid albeit against athletico but that would be off the hook ya get me!

So would I mate, but only if we can afford to strengthen what will be a threadbare squad at the end of the season. I meant struggled in the premiership due to fatigue and injuries due to europa cup

my only worry is europe might come sooner than we think and i wont be able to afford to get there.
a sunderland away day in europe would be fantastic

On a Saturday I support Sunderland, then the team who are playing Newcastle. Sunderland come first, so Europe without a doubt.

That's the dilema, blow your kitty on a shitty match in Lithuania cos it's the first european match Sunderland have competed in in your lifetime, or keep your kitty and hope for a big tie a little bit later on.

theres something to be said for your rivals knowing its only cuz of how mint you are that they stayed up.

id beat west ham to get into europe and save the mags, and let them know all year long they only stayed up because we felt sorry for them

I love Sunderland more than I hate newcastle..so we should always win every game we can. Then if we tried to win but did not and the mags went down that is what is called a 'sliver-lining'

I think what's more important is focusing on our own club and forgetting the Mags. I'd rather see us progress and get into Europe then wait around and hope Newcastle get relegated knowing that they'd near get in the Premier League again, it's about time we stopped pondering on other teams and focus on ourselves and shape our destiny.

After spending the week before the match asking any mags you know "So, do you want Sunderland to win on Sunday?"
