There's only a few month until the new cricket season and Durham ccc have had financial difficulties and decided not too have a pre-season tour,so a few of the players took it upon themselves to go out too find form and fitness ahead of the new season.

We focus on two of them Mark Stoneman and Mark Wood who decided to play Grade cricket in Australia.

Mark Wood is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium-fast from Ashington, has had an excellent season so far for Palm Beach Currumbin CC and is the leading wicket taker at his club. He has also contributed useful runs with the bat.

He has been working extremely hard on his fitness and strength to hopefully avoid picking up any injuries and is feeling stronger especially with him getting plenty of overs under his belt.

Wood bowled a fiery spell in his first game for Palm Beach Currumbin CC and claimed 6-47.

Mark Stoneman said he has been training hard and although he may not have got the volume of runs he would like he has got a few decent scores. He did say he was hitting them very well in the nets and is looking forward to the start of the season

Campbelltown-Camden Ghosts CC had a great start to round three against Hawkesbury Cricket Club on Saturday.

Mark Stoneman the left-handed opening batsman from Gateshead, batted a superb 72 runs just two days after he arrived in Australia, to help the Ghosts amass 338 runs on day 1.

The club was thrilled that Stoneman continued the form which saw him accumulate 1200 runs in the recent summer of English first-class cricket.

Both Wood and Stoneman should come back brimming full of confidence and hit the ground running.

Sounds like typical Stoneman, good starts and lots of promise, hope we get the real substance and big scores this season.

Probably for the best that we aren't touring anywhere. It makes no sense going somewhere with a warm climate where the pitches tend to be hard and bouncy - then starting the season in chilly conditions here where the ball swings arl owa!
