Stonehenge of the North

There's obviously the "Watford Gap" thing. That's really a decent place to draw the line, but thick shites think its in/near to Watford, rather than Northampton.

There's no way you can suggest Ripon isn't in the North though. Its in Yorkshire, which is the north by any definition.
Northampton is the first twon northwards that has a language I don't understand, so yes it's Watford Gap for me.

Example: Doon toon...down town.

Near to Northampton is a good place to draw the line???? And you’ve criticised other people’s lack of geographical awareness?

When I travel back up north it’s around Sheffield that things start to become and feel northern. It’s about the midway point in the country as well, so that also makes sense.

I work with a load of people from the Northampton area and they’re a million miles away from being northern in any sense of the word.

In fact, I like Watford Gap as when I’m driving back from the north east I know I’m close to where I live in Bedfordshire.

Its not me saying this, its everyone in the south. As someone above said, both sides of the country see things differently.

Anyway, after Northampton you hit Leicester then quickly Nottingham. There's no way that's the south. (Obviously all 3 are the midlands, but when there's only a binary choice...)

If any people in the south do say this, and it’s not a view I’ve ever really heard, it will be the same sort of people you’re criticising for saying Ripon is in the south.

In a binary choice Nottingham and Leicester are absolutely in the south.

Ask anyone in the south, and they'll say the opposite.

Bear in mind, people in Notts will great you with "What's up me duck". Its very hard to consider that as southern. I lived there for 4 years and never felt like it was the south. Can't speak for Leicester though.

I’ve just asked and the answer wasn’t the opposite.

And have you heard how they talk in Devon, Hampshire, Cornwall etc? They don’t all speak Cockney rhyming slang down here you know.

Just look at a map and draw a line across the middle of England.

Went there when there was some sort of hippy festival on, seemed to fit the place.

Also it is north of me, and I live in the north, so it is north.

i watched some documentary on motorways many years ago and there was some old biddy on it moaning about how confusing Watford Gap is

God help them if they ever reach Scotch Corner
Oi. We missed a game up there cos of that.

I walk it regularly and in June all the hippies gather and have a party. There is gift stalls and face painting. couple of a hundred stalls and a weird place. Very eery
