Some people have a weird complex over the Northness of places. Some think that anything south of Tyne & Wear isn’t the north.Anyone who thinks Ripon isn't Northern really has neither a grasp of the English North/South divide, nor basic geography.
It isn't even close to the midlands, never mind the south.
There's obviously the "Watford Gap" thing. That's really a decent place to draw the line, but thick shites think its in/near to Watford, rather than Northampton. Some people have a weird complex over the Northness of places. Some think that anything south of Tyne & Wear isn’t the north.
Its the same in the south aswell. Really weird territorial stuff.
