Stone Roses or Oasis?

I was too young for the Roses as well. Grew up loving Oasis. Got older, found more music. Realised Oasis were a bit of a shit (covers) band and there was much better out there, including the Roses. Its a simple matter of quality.

are you forgetting the roses only did one good album (its a belter like) and had a singer who couldnt sing a note?

the fact they split early probably did them a favour in terms of how people remember them.

Errr, are you joking? The Stone Roses and the Manc bands that followed dominated everywhere, you couldn't move for pictures of King Monkey.

Was this a serious question from the OP?

More people have heard of Oasis than the Stone Roses so theres no doubt they created more of a buzz overall.... but as I said Roses are the better band.

Rarley disagree with Kermode but I'm going to have to say that I don't get the Roses at all. Oasis songs might be simple but a few of them hit you right where it feels good.

The correct answer is The Smiths.

Roses by a mile, the Second Coming being a more accomplished album than anything by Oasis.

Im completely baffled by how high some people put the Roses.

1 album ffs and a really bad lead singer.

They basically did nowt compared to the proper great bands.

definitely maybe pisses all over second coming, and i like both.

he's right you know, when was the last time you actually listened to it?

oh and roses by a mile too

Last time i listened to it would be about three weeks ago. I think its not as bad as many make out. But to think its as good as either of Oasis first tow is laughable.

Oasis were a decent enough pop-rock band that came along when the vast majority of other stuff was techno-garbage. People seized upon this small oasis in a desert of music and they became hyped into something more popular/iconic than their talent/music merited. (pun shoe-horned in)

The Stone Roses were just better in every way.

Ian Brown vs Liam Gallagher as a live singer?
Oasis piss all over the Roses as a live act (got bootlegs galore from both, and seen Oasis and Browny live many a time).
Roses were a studio band, who did one great record and then nowt.
If you blinked youd have missed them!

The Stone Roses debut is the last decent album pop/rock music has produced. IMHO.

Edit Lou Reed's New York was better but I stick him in the 60s/70s bracket.

All about opinions.

In Rainbows by Radiohead is, in my opinion, a masterpiece.

Liam Gallagher wasn't even the best singer in Oasis!!

 94-98 he was outstanding!

Noel only got his act together 2000 onwards (when he had to step in cos Liam had caned his voice over the years).

It's my age marra. Radiohead are canny but nothing that wasn't done 10 times better in the 70s. The music you grow up with is always the most important. If Oasis were in their pomp when you were growing up then they'll mean a lot mmore to you than an old fart like me:lol:

I did grow up with Oasis, but i have my others i prefer over them. Hardly a day goes by when i dont listen to The Beatles, Rolling Stones or the Smiths.

You might be right but I think the post OK Computer stuff from Radiohead is mind blowing in parts.

Noels the better singer but Liams the better front man

Liams singing in the mid 90s is better than anything Noel could ever do.
