Suit yourself, the only problem with it is that diving will increase. How can Sterling know the ball has been played, did he or did he not grab him. BTW I feel the same when the defender obstructs forward protecting ball going out, hope that one is next.

Didn't really have a grab just stuck him arm out

There is a simple answer to that, don't put your hand in front of him,try to win the ball fairly!

What is fair then. You see teams using blockers and everything from set plays, I'm sure 95% of corners will be classed as fouls now

People will just drag out the tired cliches of 'consistency' and 'contact sport'.

Am I the only person who isn't bothered about refs being consistent? I'd rather they just got it right.

Yep it's impossible to be consistent anyway as depends on your view, from one angle a foul can look a foul from another it won't.

People who expect consistency are naive as fuck,it will never happen

It's a contact sport, there's always going to be contact when there's 18 men in the box. Sterling literally puts his arm out infront of him it's such a soft infringement

Saying its a contact sport doesn't allow all contact does it?

It's a contact sport, so you should be able to block your opponents path to the ball and not go for the ball yourself? The rules do not allow that.

If you have Sky+ rewind it and rewatch it.

Sterling is not looking at the ball, he is stood in front of Shawcross waiting for Shawcross to go towards the centre of the box and puts his hands on his chest to push him back. He has two attempts at stopping Shawcross getting into the box.

You simply cannot do that and saying its a contact sport does not IMO allow that. If that's the case then Shawcross himself should not have given away a penalty by your rules?

Good! Just because everyone does it doesn't mean they should.

I get your point but he doesn't impede shawcross at all really, Shawcross still gets up to the point of the cross, certainly doesn't impede his jump either.

You see offensive teams using blockers all the time to get their man free, will they all be fouls now? For me it's clever defending. If someone grabs them and pulls them down then okay a pen but that was a brush.

Wrong culture player cheats called clever defending wrong wrong culture

Absolutely correct!

You can only be consistent if you see the foul the same as everyone else does, and you can only do that via replays.

Mind reader?
If they gave each manager/captain 1 challenge per half, where another official assesses the play in question and can relay that info to the ref where they can overturn the decision, it would solve a lot of the officiating calamities.
