Stewards

Never had much of a problem with stewards personally. The ones down Darlo let us smoke in the bogs/stands etc no problem. £32 isn't bad though, beats paying for a match ticket. ;)

you can't watch the game you know ;)

You're always gonna get the odd one that still thinks he/she can smoke in the bogs at HT

personally, I receive £27.xx after tax, and you need to be there for 12:45 (on a saturday obviously), and you dont get finished til at least 5:15 - sometimes 5:30 +

Depends on how fast the stadium empties at FT, and how quick you do area checks, secure exit gates etc etc. Never got out last night til 10:40 although I did have to do the bar af HT, otherwise it would've been 10:15

They have been lucky so far. They will pick on the wrong person/group sooner or later and have some serious disorder on their hands.

no they won't. They know who to avoid and who to pick on. They haven't got much choice when the lad runs on the pitch but in the SWC, thousands stand up, the young'uns are hoyed out. I've taken that up with stewards in the past without getting very far. They just deny it when they know for a fact what they're doing.

how many fans - not including SAFC ones, follow that rule? Possibly, less than 5%?

There are rules you CAN enforce (pitch incursion etc), and ones you just CAN'T - ie: standing for corners etc.. It's when fans (and yes i'll use our SWC lads in this case!) stand for long periods of time (for most of the 90mins). Safety does comes into play at this time and thus stewards have to try and get you all to sit down. (which doesn't happen most of the time, as you all just chant "stand up, if ya hate the mags")

That, and the fact there are more people than seats sometimes in the SWC, when 3 mates sharing 1 seat (or just standing together with 39 others, in a row made for 40 people) and that is a safety issue in itself.

really? Funny how the rule doesn't exist when thousands run on... The stewards give up and just ignore the rule.

cant blame them really. theyre meant to be sfatey stewards or whatever, not bouncers. expecting them to tackle lunatics who will be quite happy to start throwing punches is a bit unrealistic.
some of them deserve a clip like, some right twats among them

its not even a bad thing when hundreds celebrate on the pitch. shown on tv etc as a happy moment, isnt it great etc etc. one or 2 do it and theyre scum

They're are there to enforce the rules of the stadium. These rules seemingly don't exist for the "lunatics".

stewards aren't allowed to chase fans around the field of play - and have to wait til they come off, and then hand them over to Police or eject or arrest.. Whether its 1 or 100... you'll get a sketch outta summit like Benny Hill

The incident happened right next to where we were sitting. The kid was an idiot for doing what he did - running back onto the pitch - but the stewards were way over the top. They were probably pissed that he'd give them the slip momentarily and caused one of them to slip on their arse.

They should really be more aware that this type of reaction really can inflame a situation.

aye just saying its understandable that they dont like to have a go at people who look as though they will rip your head off. stewards arent hard men or anything of the sort

can you imagine what would happen if there were no stewards, police or infact any safety staff at the match on a day of a game..

Surely that like playing Sunderland vs Newcastle (or any team for that matter) without a Ref or Officials!

aye people standing, sitting where they want etc. horrible.

ok vs the likes of newcastle someone would probably end up dead without police etc but for most games itd fine i reckon

Most fans don't realise that without Stewards the game would not talke place.

I have done some stewarding at Wenbley and the events don't go ahead unless a seniior police offficer is satisfied that everything is in place to ensure the safety of those attending. Then and only then do the turnstiles get opened.

I should write a novel on:

Saftey stewards - The true heroes of modern football.

Don't know about anyone else but I'd find that as aggravating as fuck personally.

we aren't saying take away all the stewards, polis etc. We're saying have a bit of common sense and don't act like jumped up f***ing hitlers. You can make sure everyones safe without aiming to get a minimum of 20 people out per game. Like a f***ing hit squad at times. Stand back, pick a target, gang up (8 or 9 stewards plus 2 coppers), take him out and repeat until the 70th minute then just stand in the disabled access way and look pretty.

The thing that got me annoyed yesterady (and often does) is that they'll manhandle Sunderland fans, yet the Everton fans who sat on the front row who celebrated and incited violence are given bodyguard treatment from the Stewards. No other club allows away fans to sit in the home end if they are open about their allegiances, why do we?

correct! would anyone like to hazard a guess as to the very MIMIMUM number of stewards (club, protector and/or event cover) needed to legally operate on a matchday!

PS: SM you may know this, so please dont answer!

Is it marginally higher than their accumulated IQ?

:lol::lol:

folk are getting the wrong end of the stick here. We've got the worst stewards in the league (with the exception of one or two). You can ensure the safety of those in attendance without ganging up on the kids, manhandling people, throwing people around and generally being unapproachable cockheads. Unfortunately the majority on this board only have to deal with the yella coats which are the most placid and approachable. Try telling a blue coat summit and he'll watch over you for 10 f***ing minutes after he's telt you to sit down and be quiet.

I don't know the answer for the SOL but I think there are 6000 people working on a match day at Wembly and 2000 are crowd control.

What the average fan knows about safety stewarding:-

"blank page";)

cannit imagine stewards at wembley are heavy handed. Most games are tourist attractions, pointing folk to their seats and saying have a nice day. But yeah, sure you know an awful lot more than the rest of us that deal with the dickheads at the SOL on a regular basis.
