Unless I missed something I never got the impression that was football related. Obviously if he was in Newcastle, not knowing the rivalry, and was going on about being a Sunderland player then it might have happened but I doubt any mag would recognise the lad if he wasnt going on about playing for SAFC, and as I say I dont remember football being mentioned as a possible or probable motive anywhere

That's why I posted it! in reply to this.

it seems too vicious of an attack to be purely for the sake of it

A totally pointless attack and unprovoked as far as I know.

Of course, he did an interview on Soccer Saturday and it mentioned his time here and how Owen Coyle picked him up just before he left Burnley and then followed him to Bolton.

I think it was more a case of him not wanting to stay after the attack

Great. Come and play for Sunderland, just don't ever go out in Newcastle or you'll get whacked by a neaderthal or a pub-full of idiots will shower your motor with beer bottles.

A MUM-TO-BE last night claimed her boyfriend attacked an FA Cup hero on the pitch - because she used to date the player.

Jade Coles, 24, said her fella Rob Fitzgerald punched Stevenage star Scott Laird watched by millions on TV after a match on Saturday.
She said "tipsy" Rob thought he was "defending her honour".

He joined joyous fans running from the stands at the end of the Hertfordshire side's 3-1 triumph over Premier League Newcastle. Jade, 24, explained: "I haven't been in a relationship with Scott now for two or three years but Rob knows about it.
"Scott was a player and I don't mean on the pitch. He was a bit of a ladies' man.
"Rob was at the game celebrating the victory on the pitch. He saw Scott celebrating and just lost his temper. He'd been drinking and that's why it happened.

"He was being protective. It was a moment of madness."
Blonde Jade, from Letchworth, spoke after Rob, 24, was arrested on suspicion of assault. She went on: "I'm not going to say anymore as Rob is giving a statement to police."
Footie fans were shocked when they saw left back Laird knocked to the floor by a fan in a red and white Stevenage Borough scarf as the Broadhall Way crowd went wild at the full-time whistle.
Police and the club urged fellow supporters to name the culprit.
But Scott insisted at the time: "I'm OK. It was a fantastic day for everyone at Stevenage and I don't want to let the incident take the gloss away."

Team boss Graham Westley said: "He said to me, 'It's lucky I've got a big head to take it.' It was a sad way for things to end."

Last night a spokesperson for the club said: "Scott does know Jade but they haven't had any contact for 2½ years and they never dated."

Police confirmed a 24-year-old man from Stevenage was being held in custody after handing himself in shortly before 2pm.
A spokesman said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an alleged offence at Stevenage football ground on January 8.
"He is currently in police custody. Officers are still keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the alleged offence."

Shes sweet as a nut with massive chebs as well

Is it just a coincedence that this girl seems to talk in exactly the same style a most Sun journalists write?

If that article is true, then this lad is still a massive cock end.

They haven't been together for over two years yet her current boyfriend feels the need to lamp him for no reason other than he used to shag his lass.

I smell a touch of inadequecy.
