Yes. Felt by smelt... a sentence or two on all of the injured players... pre internet this was an important read!
Remember come rain or shine he'd wear shorts.... usually the away shorts despite being at roker park

If you are going to be at the side of the pitch wearing football boots shorts and socks, you dont want to confuse anyone, so I suspect the away shorts was a deliberate choice.

Bit of a random question this but does anyone know what he gets up to these days? Or since he left the club all those years ago. I remember when I was a kid always knew the physio’s name etc but haven’t got a clue who we have now.
Stinker was his.nickname
Can only see the back of his head but the greatest 'stretchered off' incident ever.

Used to see him on the A19 after the match so must have lived in Cleveland in those days.

It's what you would say a broken leg

Johnny Waters was the man.

I worked with Johnny for 7 years and he was brilliant. Funny always laughing. He used to use the injured players to drive him all over the town. We sued to go to Edward Thompsons canteen for our lunch dinner. Calling at the bookies at the top of Roker Baths Road. They drove him to the races after treatment. Great bloke - knew his stuff. His ropms were where the football people met after a match for a whisky - Stein, Busby, Mercer, Docherty.

Didn't also have something to do with Wearmouth Colliery in a medical capacity? sure my dad knew him from there, top bloke apparently.

He looked after the cricketers at Whitburn, Sunderland and Wearmouth. He lived just along from Wearmouth CC and it was his local.
Aye it might have been from the Duck Inn rather than the pit he knew him from, spent about the same time at both me da 😄

I remember meeting him in a pub a few years ago. I pointed at him and shouted “you fart smeller, you fart smeller!!!” I was straining my vocal chords shouting it so loud and almost burst a blood vessel. Wasn’t him.
:lol::lol:
So, to get this right, you shouted 'you fart smeller' at a random bloke a few years ago. You almost induced a stroke (fuck off, lurking semantics) doing this, and you admit to it on here?

Mate, I like you.👍

Went to York City reserves vs Sunderland reserves at Bootham Crescent when I was a kid. Sitting behind our dug out Smelty knew we were Sunderland fans, went in his physio bag and chucked us some packets of wrigleys chewing gum, legend!!!

Did he have a physio room above Oliver’s dentists in Herrington after he’d been “let go” by SAFC? Or was that a different physio ?

Always remember at Roker him jogging back around the outside of the pitch and he used to get a standing ovation, could never tell if he loved it or not ha

He used to look mint in his boots, pulled up socks, short shorts and red hummel jumper with black arms, with the massive white hummel logo on the back. I made it my mission to obtain one of those jumpers, and succeeded.
