it's not just after a friendly though

i can't recall seeing him play but was pretty obvious he was going to be shite. just had to take a look at the Blackburn fans views on him. they were in disbelief we were paying a fee for the lad

So we were writing him off before we'd seen him play. Plenty of players improve at other clubs

.. and that 5 - 0 battering will have boosted his confidence how, exactly ?

Seems like the wrong decision.
We're discussing the Derby game and the vote of confidence and the faith the manager has shown in him. Rightly or wrongly, (time will tell) but just as Poyet didn't drop Mannone the game after Southampton, Grayson isn't dropping Steele either his Celtic mare.

Managers shouldn't be destroying players. Not yet anyway;)

That's true by Manone rewarded him by dropping another clanger in the following games ( Arsenal at home) and was promptly dropped. I honestly think it would be in the interests of Steele to take him out of the firing line.

Steele always has looked nervous he's like Lionel Perez on acid

He really didn't have a choice. If he drops Steele straight away after a shit game with no opportunity to do better then Steele's fucked. He'd be like Vito, a cat in headlights.

The Celtic game was an all round disaster. Steele more to blame than most but let's hope he has a belter against Derby and we have genuine competition between him and Ruiter
