Must be hell to sit next to somebody who conducts himself in a civilised manner.I'd hate to sit next to you at the match.

I haven't, nor do I intend to bite another person's ear lobe off at a game or anywhere else. You're using this incident to tar everyone who supports England in the same manner. That in itself lacks class, Scotsman.
Where did I tar everyone, I just said stay classy!
So football is only entertaining because of a selection of feral fans who sing abusive songs at each other?
...but that has nothing to do with fans singing daft songs at each other.

Daft/abusive take your pick. I'm not offended by bad language and I can accept it spilling out in frustration at a poor pass or questionable refereeing decision but all this singing songs at each other in order to rile the other up is pathetic from grown men really.Make your mind up.
Are they feral fans singing abusive songs, or just fans singing daft songs?
Not really liking the fact you're labelling fans who sing (God forbid) songs with 'colourful' language, 'feral'.
Who are you? Brian Sewell?
Yeah much more entertaining singing childish songs to each other and having god knows how much wasted on policing because fans can't behave in a civilised manner.I can understand 14 and 15 year olds doing it but when I see grown men chanting songs at opposition fans it really is cringeworthy.

Some of the things shouted and chanted at opposition fans and players you wouldn't dare say In the street so quite why people feel the price of a ticket permits this is beyond me.
I dont use twatter and in turn dont follow Collymore but does he usually tweet shite?
Its quite good tbh,I was at dallas v toronto game and the fans are were mixed, was really good banterWhere did I say that like? I said cricket and rugby are boring (which, imo, they are) and that the atmospheres are shit. Is football just entertaining because of people abusing each other etc? No, its more entertaining because its a better game but yes, the fact that it is more "tribal" and fans are kept apart and generate an atmosphere does contribute to the sport being better. Imagine if fans mixed every match with no home or away ends, it'd be shite

I used to be part of the singing and chanting brigade when I was 15/16 but when you grow up a bit the idea of singing songs at opposition fans just isn't really all that appealing.I prefer to just sit and enjoy the spectacle personally.I think it's good fun myself. There's no need to be so pretentious. Chanting is part and parcel of supporting your club. It helps create a good atmosphere and a solid unity between fans. You should get out of your shell and try it some time. It's a lot more liberating than sitting down in silence.
Aye wouldnt mind it tbh, been to a few mls games and the banter is always good with the fansMight be okay for a random match you're attending as a neutral (although I'd still rather be in one end or another) but would you really want it for Sunderland, every week?

Which is fine but with chanting abuse comes consequences and one of these is not being able to enjoy a beer whilst watching the game like you can at pretty much every other sport.Fair enough but regardless of age not everyone feels the same way.

You are obviously a reasonably intelligent person who knows the difference between right and wrong though. In my experience for every 2 or 3 of you or me there's an idiot who feels the need to shout and chant ridiculous things at oppo players and fans.I keep using this as an example but just look through the pages on here for a good impression of this.or shouldn't say anywhere - references to deaths, eg Munich or the death or serious illness of the coach's children (Holland) are particularly odious & as far as I know, are particular to football - but are not standard behaviour - from my experience this is not the norm at Football games - and are attitudes usually condemned by fellow fans. I am absolutely sure that treated as adults, the adult/family section of the crowd would behave as adults/children. The singing/youth sections maybe well have to be more "vigilated/regulated" - youthful exuberance does lead to excess! We, as football fans, got ourselves a bad reputation in the past - and there will always be this tendency to associate your club with your town or territory (Kop end) - but the measures taken to eradicate the hooligan elements and the new premier culture have taken this violent edge out of the game. If anyone makes racial gestures for example - he is immediatly repudiated and singled out for punishment - something that hardly happened on the terraces 40 years ago. I still remember being surrounded, to my anger and dismay, by scores of people around me doing the monkey gesture at black players - this is unimaginable now. We have grown up - and should be treated as grown ups - the minority that find it more difficult to behave in a socially acceptable way will slowly get the message - and end up joining the barmy army.
Interesting that Stan seems to imply he knows who did it, and they're famous, but from the reports I've just read it was two unknown attackers who were English. The attack has been caught on someone's phone so it's just a case of getting a positive ID. Canny bit of the lower ear lobe is missing, but the victim seems to revelling in his misery ...
