Yeah true about the money, but fans are way to obsessed with sell on values etc. If he helps them get champions league football for the next few seasons, then he is more than worth the money surely?

Definitely but, although I also hate the way football fans all seem to think they're accountants now, it does seem odd. Will he really make the difference? I think they are well set up with what they have attacking wise to get top 4 if they spend the money they do have on the right areas but that is mainly in the defensive area. Obviously I don't know how much they have to spend but you'd imagine this would be one of their bigger deals and I just don't know that they need it.

The sell on thing won't bother the fans but as a club they could probably find someone for the same or not much more (I don't know who mind!) who is similar in terms of offering a physical presence, who could grab a few to help get top 4 and who they could sell on, it would make more sense for LFC

£9m for a 32 year old with two years in the top flight. Very strange one that.
doesnt matter how long he has been there - he has shown consistently that he is a good footballer now.

Doesnt get away from the fact he's 32 and £9m with no chance of any resale value is mental.

£9m for a 32 yer old, who as it stands would be a bench warmer at best.

Liverpool need to spunk their money on centre backs first and foremost.

What they really need is a top class defensive mid, one of their problems was the back 4 were just left exposed constantly.
I think Gerrard and Henderson were top class. It was stupid defensive mistakes loose passes and poor tackles.

He was much better last season. This year he was overshadowed a bit by Rodriguez, and was nowhere near as effective.

He's skilful, he's good pretty good in the air and good around the box. He suits Southampton perfectly, as he links up very well with Lallana, Rodriguez, etc.

But his form wasn't as good this year, and he is 32, I don't imagine he's going to get anymore consistent. And he doesn't have much pace to speak of, which is what Liverpool base their whole game on at the moment..... while he would hold the ball up and bring the likes of Sterling/Sturridge into play, that's not how they've been playing this year... they like their forwards to run at defenders immediately, and that's not really what he does.

Agreed. I can only assume he'll be a last 15 minute "fuck it isn't working, horse Lambert on and kick the fucker towards him and hope something happens". That's a bit harsh on Lambert, he's not bad on the ground tbh, but certainly nothing like what Liverpool have currently so that's the only way I can see him being used. If that is the case then £9m seems really mental

If they got out of the champions league group, and through a few rounds of the domestic cups, then you are looking at 50 games. You could say you can't play suarez and sturridge in all of these like. See what you mean though.

I think it's a good signing personally. They need cover all over the pitch and I think he's an assured signing. He'll do well.

Even if they get 2 seasons out of him that's much better value than some of our recent acquisitions.

They conceded more goals than can just be explained to loose passes and poor tackles, a lot has to do with team shape.

they paid about £18m for that plank from PSG last summer

Apart from Sturridge , Coutinho (Mig been steady) Rodgers really has bought and loaned some crap

An average of 14 goals per season and hes getting older. Totally think this is a turkey of a signing, Lacks pace for their style of play and would only fit well with Sturridge as Suarez and him both like to drop deep.

Liverpool haven't learnt their lesson like.

Seems odd that they get rid of Carroll but sign this guy a couple of years later. As long as we make sure we benefit from it then let them get on with it.
