Squid Game on Netflix

I used to live in South Korea. Every now and again I had to run the gauntlet of tear gas when the uni students were rioting.

Given that that's a plot point, and that I know some of the locations in Seoul where people were picked up and dumped, and given what I got to know of the Korean national character, Squid Game was like a documentary for me.

I have just watched the first 6 episodes today with the dubbing and the subtitles, kind of annoying as for some reason the subtitles were saying completely different things to the dubbing. Really enjoyed it so far and my disabled daughter thinks it’s hilarious when everyone gets shot and falls over 😂. She has a weird sense of humour.
Am 2 episodes in and the dubbing / subtitles is annoying me

soon as i saw it was subtitles i put it off..
I couldn’t watch it in Korean and only subtitles but the dubbing, while a bit annoying, isn’t that bad and you get used to it. I’m pleased I didn’t let it put me off, it’s strangely addicting once you start watching it.

its ok, I'm unsure as to why it is being raved about quite so much. I much preferred Train to Busan if we are talking Korean cinema

Its almost OTT which it does well, like it doesnt take itself too seriously, but when it gets serious it drags. The organ storyline for me was pointless

Thought the main actor was class mind

I found this to be one of the most bizarre programmes.
I wouldn't say I enjoyed it, or that I liked it or could even recommend it. But there was something about it that kept me watching it. Every episode, I felt an urge to just go straight onto the next one. Yet when it was all over, I had no excitement for a second series, and didnt feel I'd watched a fantastic programme. But it kept me hooked from 5 minutes in.
Wholeheartedly agree with this. I felt exactly the same.

First episode was interesting enough but fell asleep in the second. May go back to it in the future but there is a lot more on my watch list.

Although I enjoyed it, I thought you could see most of the twists a mile off and also predicted the main reveals. The porn-level acting of the VIPs spoiled it a tad.

I watched it with subtitles, after a while you forget they're speaking in Korean.

Also, it seemed to just forget that the main lad was being chased by loan sharks and let him sit about for a year not touching his winnings. Also, you'd go after the people running the game rather than go see your own daughter, who you hadn't seen for a year?

A second series may answer those questions. It looks like it's left wide open for it all.

Just watched it thought was amazing but agree the VIPs poor dialogue and acting spoiled it slightly

Thats exactly how I feel about it. Nowhere near deserving of the hype but its good fun. Will be forgotten about.

I'm just getting into this and the difference between the voice-over and the subtitles is hilarious. In episode 4, just before they begin the tug-of-war and the teams are weighing each other up, the voice-over actress says 'oh, God. It's all men'. Yet the subtitles read 'it's a sausage-fest'. Absolutely creased. 🤣

Just finished it last night.

I totally get how the main character - who's name I never really caught, would be disillusioned with the final outcome. The twist was good too.
What I can't understand is -

Why on earth he'd want to go back in. Even if he's a multi-millionaire, it's not like he can suddenly become one of the VIPs either. He obviously gave a lot of money to the lass's brother and the mother of Sun Wu (sp) but he still had millions in the bank.

He doesn't. He wants revenge
