Speakman

I thought / think he was a good choice.

Its a funny one, even if we have a poor season and he looks a bit off, the very point of having someone in this position is stability.

He should be able to work with carte blanche and shouldn't have to answer to anyone if he is able to the job properly. Thats why it is beyond key that you make the right choice and I wouldn't want us using "recruitment specialists" again.
For what it’s worth I don’t like him and he seems very smug to me. He needs to deliver or we will be here for another season

He told me, he thinks you're really pleasant.

Will take more than a year to change the whole philosophy and culture at the club with regards to how we do our transfer business. As has been said setting up the data based approach takes a good few years
Didn’t take Smithy, or Reidy or Stokoeey a year. They were managing the bloody team anarl. Time my arse. That’s hoyed in to give them an excuse for failure. We’d still be waiting now for McMenemy to produce if we were stupid enough to fall for the auld time excuse bullshit.
If they can’t start showing a definite improvement within a few weeks they nivver will. End of.

Would be nice if things moved faster but so many of his predecessors would have flapped and gave Power, Wyke, Scowen etc more money to stay ... the decisions on the retained list gave me the confidence to be quite relaxed on this transfer window, I think we will have a strong squad when the window shuts.
..you don't know that for certainty... you doing commentary tomorrow?

Managers usually need longer than most fans want to give them imo. In Speakman's job it's probably over a couple of years to judge him. We should see signs though, improving academy, consistent style of play, good balance in the squad to bring through youth, signing players for less than they're worth etc.

I think the decisions so far have been the right ones, just not enough of them (players in).

Regardless of anything else, I would like to hear an explanation at some point from Speakman/Johnson as to what happened with the ‘list’ - ie, were the key targets unavailable / stupidly prices / over ambitious etc. That particular line fed us all serious belief. Not that it’s particularly failed at all, but it just gave the expectation that it would be quick(er) business as we had already identified the targets, and didn’t need to waste any time on that front.

The first big wave of judgment will begin the night before match day 1 when we know what personnel we’ve got. And that wave will turn into a tsunami if the result v Wigan is poor. 2 weeks to make stuff happen, for many of us.

I will wait and see, 2 of the 3 players brought in so far seem to be an upgrade, still waiting to see Pritchard, so fingers crossed for the rest coming in

How man, you southern ponce! Actually even though I have said give him time, he doesnt get a season, I want to see what we have brought in at the end of this transfer window and see how our performances on the pitch are
