Their last season in league 1 total spend was next to nowt. Plenty loans spread over the season but only two "undisclosed" transfer fees paid. First season in the Championship a few frees four undisclosed fees and one for big money, a certain Mr. Will Grigg for a princely £325K :)

good setup there, and they have fantastic attitude. They don't know when they are licked and crack on.

if they sign a few flash harry lads they will blow the gaff, hope they do well tbh.

We have had 3 players, 2 full backs and a center forward up here over the last 2 weeks all have gone elsewhere.
What does that tell you, if they were brought up here to sign and did not, why?.
Is it because they were looked in the eye and SH thought NAH they don't have that look in the eye I'm after. They don't move onto phase 3.
One word, MONEY.

Indeed. I've been reading up on them, how they managed their rise. The importance of controlling their budget is mentioned a lot. They have been particularly adept at exploiting the loan system.

They pick out lads that blend well into the existing group, no mean feat. They also play good football and have a good engagement with the fans, some of the clever sods who pitch up here could do with a week down there to chat to the owners / management team, never ceases to amaze me that in an exclusively people based business SAFC apparently lack the ability to speak and learn from others doing it well.

That said it would not make a canny interview telling the masses you got tips from darn sarf.

At least Congerton had a squad together for the first game, seems very unlikely this blokes gonna manage that.

Wasn't the most auspicious of transfer windows though, was it? Rodwell, Alvarez, Jones, Buckley, Gomez, Vergini.

This first two named cost the club around £50m when you factor in fees, wages and litigation. Probably the worst transfer window in the club's history when you factor that in.

We looked very pro active though.

Yup, very proactive in saddling the club with tens of millions of pounds worth of future liabilities. I'd rather we did actually stop that process as it was in evidence before Congerton and hasn't changed since.

As I keep pointing out though those failures and the length of time they've been going on puts an awful lot of pressure on the new owner. I wonder if he was aware of that when he bought in. He'll obviously have been aware of the failures but was he aware of the impact of them on the psyche of the fans.

yes we need to be wise. this may not be popular. It is necessary, this does not mean those at the helm are the ones to stick with.

Brentford had a long term plan from back in those days. And it was all about spend only increasing once they started to generate revenues from the players that they were able to sell. Sustainable!

Problem is, that requires patience.
Despite the fact that we ended up in this mess because of a lack of patience and throwing good money after bad, a lot of "big club" supporters don't believe that you can do anything now in football unless you are splashing the cash that is required to hit the yellow ticker on Sky Sports News.

Agreed. I just hope the kid doesn't cave in to demands, it only buys you five minutes.

They also show patience with the manager as well by basing their decisions on more than just the league table and most recent results.

Think it was something like 10 games without a win at the start of one of their seasons, but they "underlying data" told them that they had actually played / performed well in those games and the results didn't follow what would be expected e.g. if you played those games 100 times in the same manner their average points would be better than they actually got. Its all about understanding "variance" in their system. These are the sorts of things that supporters quite simply don't really care about, especially around the North East where its headlines (and now social media) that drive a lot of thoughts.

The club really does need to start ramping up the way it educates the supporters though to try and get a few more to think along those lines.
If we perform well in the first 10 games, but don't get X number of points, then without a doubt we'll have a lot of fans on Johnson back demanding that we change it because "Brenty is ferking clueless".

NB - look at this shite for starters - KLD out of his depth

Please explain in detail what the three phases of the player interview procedure are, and who conducts them.

You have stated on here you had twenty minutes with both Speakman and Johnson in the inner sanctums of the SOL last Friday night. Please expand on how these two longish chats came to be.

I agree with your concerns on Johnson and am not a fan to date but want him to do well nonetheless and then we’d all be a lot happier. Whether this happens will be interesting to see. Let’s hope so for the clubs sake.
I did not meet Johnson
I want him to do great, but IMHO he does not fit here
The interview I will post at T time

It’s an interview that demonstrates Speakman is full to the brim with self-belief and confidence in his own and the recruitment team’s abilities. If he was half as good executing strategy as he is explaining it I suspect the interview wouldn’t have been necessary.
Reads more like a prepared statement than an interview. When wasn’t he questioned on specifics, I.E Gallagher?

Depends how its spent really. Bournemouth went from 21st in the 3rd Division to the PL in just 6 seasons but they spent a fair bit getting there. That spending also kept them in the top flight for a further 5 years.
