Can sense he's as frustrated as all of us.
Very Good read and spot on, our anxiety as Sunderland fans comes from the fact we have heard all this before however with that said going into season 4 of 3rd tier football over 20k season tickets sold and a already near 30k attendance for Wigan at home shows we back our club time and time again after years of disappointment and failure . I really hope come the end of Aug the players we recruit backs up his words even if we dont succeed in getting them all.

The Hull game especially first half and the Lincoln play off game first half gives us a glimmer of the style we will hopefully see over 90mins and the season. Yes questions are asked of Johnson tactically in game management at times but no one is perfect but he is a mark up on Ross, Parkinson , Grayson and Coleman imo however we will learn and know more about him as we move forward .

We need to get behind them now more than ever and hopefully get out of this f***ing league.

He's spot on about Pritchard. Lots of people were riled up about not spending a fee to try and get Scott Fraser but Pritchard, if he can stay fit, is a better player. However, i'm hopeful that Embleton will outperform them both this season.
Think embleton might be out of contract end of this season

"Always has niggles" he fractured his skull and shattered his eye socket after getting kicked in the face then fractured his big toe when he got back so he was out for longer. Hardly niggles are they.
..yes, he's had niggles, like when he got taken off half time as a precaution against Hull. Niggles. Get off ya high horse.

Speakman echoing what I said about it being a difficult market. It's not ideal to over-analyse every target in these conditions and you have to take opportunities where you can find them, otherwise it can leave you short.

If it was Donald in charge and we had NO full backs in the squad 5 days to go till the first game of the season...be hell on. Looks like we going to wait till last minute to get get players in.
It’s completely clear to me that this is a whole new approach. Throwing money at it hasn’t worked in the past so why not give the bloke a chance? The window hasn’t shut yet. We have played much better football so far in preseason.

Surprise surprise wants a youthful squad really means a boat loads of the younguns playing and not many transfers, like I said months ago. Before people mention Doyle and Jebbison, they ain’t ours.

Kev that really is great. Cheers
It's handy like. I've usually got an adblocker on so I get shielded from the worst of the Echo website but that strips away the crappy layout and makes it easier to read.

He did say they want a youthful squad but want to get the right 'blend'. Suppose that can be taken in a few ways but I read it as signing younger players supplemented by some more experienced ones.

No issues with his comments. He mentions clubs not wanting to lose players and it being a difficult market and given the impact of COVID on finances that makes sense. I'm not convinced it's as easy as some suggest to get who we want.

No doubt we could have brought in full backs or a CB but if it's not who we want then what is the point, other than to say, well full back is sorted before Wigan.

I guess it boils down to whether we want bodies or players. There are loads of out of contract players wandering about. If we want to have better players, it'll take longer. I'm okay with our squad, as it stands, but, would love to see us find a better RB than Winchester and a better LB than Neil. I'm not sure who those players are that we can afford to hire and afford to pay and that see us as somewhere they'd like to play.
