"If we were in a situation where players we had targeted had gone to clubs who were our competitors, then that might cause greater concern.
"But that hasn't happened at this point in time.

I liked what he had to say to be honest. I think this is key though, especially on here. Genuinely believe we’re after better players this window, and that’s always going to take longer. KTF

He speaks sense but at the same time it isn't acceptable that we are heading into the first league game without a recognised fullback on either side.

There has to be a balance between value for money and absolutely shafting yourself from the start. We aren't talking millions needing to be spent, but we should have invested before now and brought some fullbacks in.

"There will always be outliers [clubs] who are doing something a bit different, which is absolutely fine.

I like that.

Basically he’s saying give it until the end of the window to judge. And he sounds confident it’ll be sorted and ready then.

Interesting points re short term vs long term.

Would we rather throw a bumper two year deal at a poor player to play full back then be lumbered with him for the rest of the season and beyond? Sounds so familiar - I am looking at you Tom Flanagan. All for the sake of a few games as opposed to a full campaign. Of course this logic is dependant on them actually signing their main targets. The jury’s out so far.

And I am firmly in the camp that they should’ve moved already to sign at least two. But again I don’t work in football and am just an impatient fan

I find he speaks well but that was never disputed

Can sense he's as frustrated as all of us.
..that word 'data'..again. Does my head in. All a bit waffle tbh from Speakman....no surprise...

..then the players need time to gel...next you know it's December...

Not really said anything I wouldn't have expected him to say, but its good that he's come out and addressed the concerns, even tho I get the feeling they're as frustrated as we are.

I get they don't want to overpay, but there comes a point when you have to bite the bullet. If our targets do end up costing a bit more, surely it's better to get the ones you really want in, instead of running the risk of losing games and points, only to end up with the 2nd or 3rd choice players on the list?
