Speakman interview on SAFC

Surely long term we’re looking towards the PL, and promotion out of league one should be our short term ambition. Are you seriously thinking fans are going to happily accept another 3 years in league one? When the likes of Wycombe, Luton, Rotherham, Blackpool, Coventry etc. are being promoted, there‘s no excuse why we shouldn’t be. The latter have proven that a team can still be promoted with a high turnover of players.

not at all marra

I put it in quotes as that is my interpretation of what he is saying in the interview.

I get the feeling people are going to be disappointed this summer and I don’t mean by England’s failings in a major tournament.

I hope to god I’m wrong.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that a club of our resources should not be promoted next season. There is also no excuse if recent promoted teams can do it then so can we.

In our “I want it and I want it now” society that’s a long time mate. The new crew are going to have a hard time selling patience to those Seeking instant gratification.

So what is the club philosophy? Did he spell it out? No he didn't! He could be talking about any club in the world there. Guff!

i agree

I just think those who think we are going to be making loads of exciting signings maybe be disappointed.

he clearly says a few of the under 23 lads will be first team players next year, that goes along with Leadbitters message saying give them time and support.

We cant afford not to buy players and build a team for promotion before pre season we done this every year
Players need to have joined before pre season not once the season has started. If they don’t want to sign then move on but get them in early

I don’t think anyone is expecting exciting signings in this league. We just need a strong spine and some athletic pacey players

They are doing a lot of work to understand the identity of the city so they can build a team with a football philosophy to match that of the city.

He sounds as bad as LJ for talking absolute crap.
This stood out to me and needs calling out. So Arsenal play in a way that represents London? Man City Manchester etc. Complete nonsense. What's bad is that it wasn't a case of nerves it was obviously pre-decided with the interviewer feeding the question.

Yes with further context he says they'll be working on it over the summer. I would say to that why waste your time? Our identity is as a league one club. I want our objective to be a Championship club then a premier league one.
I think people like Brian Clough or Fergie would laugh you out of the room if they heard all this twaddle.

If they mean they're going to sign better players and play better football then just bloody say that! save time imo

One of the things Sir Alex is best known for his creating an ‘identity’ for Manchester United.

Nobody questions it as bollocks because he was extremely successful but that’s what he did.

Heard all this tripe before, whee the f..k is he anyway?
Just need KLD to buy some players capable of pissing this league and the f..k out of it.
Thats my thoughts based on me data like ffs.

Man Utd already had an identity long before him.
Matt Busby anyone? George Best? Bobby Charlton? Dennis Law? No identity there??

Even when I was a kid, under Docherty and others they were regarded as a team who were supposed to be winning the big prizes with attacking, aggressive football.

Has he ever played at a professional level ?

Don't think so. Looks like he went straight into coaching.

The Busby Babes, which is in itself an identity.
