Scenario 7 don’t give him what he wants and definitely leaves for nowt next summer. Is your favourite band Simple Minds? They are not the only scenarios.
Scenario 4 we raise the threshold and every bugger demands some
Scenario 5 he refuses any because he wants to go to Stoke or rangers
Scenario 6 we pay him a fortune and he’s never available through injury
This was also the case last season as well.Every one of 91 other clubs in the football league have more fit recognised strikers than we do ... its just the Sunderland model.
People keep saying we need to sign a striker with experience of the league. Do any experienced Championship level strikers come to mind that will be available for around 3-4 million?
It’s a tough job that blokes got imho and he shouldn’t be deserving of blame given it’s clear the budget is tight.
It's slightly different though. I understand the struggles and not just screaming strikers after every game.
We aren't short by choice or by stubbornness. All the evidence suggests that's we are trying to bring in Stewart level quality strikers and don't have the cash to get them over the line. I wouldn't blame Speakman for that.
It’s mad that people seem so eager to rush back to the old days of paying huge contracts. Reality is if you want to be run properly now you need a structure. I’m sure our structure will be competitive in this division and will have been worked out carefully by people much more experienced than someone on this message board. Is your favourite band Simple Minds? On here the general consensus seems to be we need an experienced striker with experience of English football and in particular the championship. He must be able to come in and “hit the ground running” but also must want less money than RS and also be happy to sit on the bench if RS finds fitness and form.
Should be an easy job finding the above. Fking disgrace we ain’t signed 2 ffs![]()
There’s a striker situation?Pleased someone's finally had the guts to highlight the striker situation.
A 1mil loan fee for cannon is ridiculous and would be stupid to pay it. It's dead money and isn't likely to be a massive step up to warrant it for a season loan.Off the top of my head within the first 30 seconds of reading your post the names of Tom Cannon and Jerry Yates.
Cannon on loan - just pay the £1m fee and Yates we could have bought even within our miserly budget.
Both look far more prepared for a championship season than either of the bairns we’ve got.
That’s 2 names we could have had without any access to the super data spreadsheet !
Have you checked that? Because Leeds started with Gnonto up front on his own on Sunday and brought Gelhardt off the bench.Every one of 91 other clubs in the football league have more fit recognised strikers than we do ... its just the Sunderland model.

I like amd would have signed Yates, but equally if we had signed him, most fans would be fuming at it. Especially of we just signed him straight away. Let's face it, if we hadn't got beat on Sunday there wouldn't have been a clamour for singing any old striker. Perhaps they believe they can get better than Yates or cannon but their target isn't available until closer to the end of the window. No-one knows, so we may as well wait until it closes before slamming then for not signing certain strikers.
I'll be one of the first to complain if we aren't stronger come September 1st
We could have signed strikers but the owner is too tight to provide the funds. We get the biggest crowds in the championship but are one of the poor boys because the owner won't chip in. OK, I do not expect tens of millions, but if we are ever going to get promoted we will have to compete with other clubs in the transfer market. We will not get promoted this season, the first weekend showed there are too many teams capable of scoring more goals than us. And please, stop this boring slow motion playing out from the back every time, mix it up a bit, we are so predictable it is criminal.Amongst all the frothing over in recent weeks (which I certainly agree sith before the backlash starts). I think any sort of nuance to the whole debate has just disappeared.
Speakman wants to buy strikers, Mowbray has confirmed that we have made several bids for strikers in January and again this summer. It's not exactly Speakmans fault if the funding it takes to get these over the line simply isn't there from the powers that be. He comes out and makes excuses because what can he say without putting the blame on his boss?
Speakman spoke about wanting simms back in january and we were linked this summer but when the fee gets more than a couple of million, he doesn't have the money to bring these players in. We can't even keep our top striker because the club can't agree a deal with him financially for the last 12 months.
The funding is going to have to increase at some point if they're serious about getting promotion and the wage bill needs to align eventually with the top 10 of the league I reckon to have a real go.
Cannon scored almost 1 in every 2 games for a PNE side that finished below us in the table last season.A 1mil loan fee for cannon is ridiculous and would be stupid to pay it. It's dead money and isn't likely to be a massive step up to warrant it for a season loan.

Cannon has 6months of professional football. No-one has really watched him or seen how he would fit within the team. Simply look at numbers, which were a good return but only scored against the worst teams in the division. He may well go well again but 1mil for 6months of professional football is excessive, especially when in a month he won't even be 1st choice. Amad was a likely starter from the beginning and had a much higher pedigree. 1mil from our budget is a lot and has to be used as effectively as possible.Cannon scored almost 1 in every 2 games for a PNE side that finished below us in the table last season.
Given our ‘limited budget’ I’d say £1m was pretty good value. Did you consider the money we paid to secure Amad’s loan was wasted dead money?
It's fact, yes it was still talked about and we are looking for one. We have 3 on the books. We can argue whether they were the right signings or if they are good enough, but we will sign another and will have 4 on the book for 1 position.“If we hadn’t got beat”
It has been well before Sunday’s game, I think that’s just not true at all.
If anything, the game just showed our glaring big hole up top. We ended up putting Ballard and Cirkin there.
Maybe the players we’re targeting aren’t the likes of Rusyn, and the Chilean player?
Mowbray has been saying for days now the club are trying hard “we’ve got bids in for players”
Yet press reports yesterday regarding both Rusyn and the other lad say no bids have been made for either player …. interest yes but no bids.
