Speakman and strikers

Until he proves his long term fitness I wouldn’t offer him an extension. I’m not going to say I wouldn’t want him back in the line up but we held our own without him last season. As it stands he doesn’t really have any bargaining power until fit.

If he was fit and scoring goals would you then ensure we give him a new contract that he is happy with, so we don’t lose several million pounds on him in the summer, or would you say no new contract and he goes for nothing?

Of course I’d like to see us sign a fully fit LND. Problem is, he isn’t fit atm. Until he shows he can go week in and week out I’m not signing him. Why aren’t clubs banging on our door to sign him?

2 and a half seasons and in that time we have managed to sign a 19 and 18 year old striker on permanent contracts that are supposedly for the first team squad. Again not a good record whatever way you try and spin it.
I’ve got an idea why don’t we wait until the end of the window then discuss this he’s already said we have bids in

Reading between the lines we will need to generate our own cash over the next few seasons. Buy low, sell high, buy lower, sell higher etc.

Once we have done that cycle a few times we will have the budget to compete.

This also could just be public posturing in the market to make clubs aware that they can’t over charge when dealing with us.

Who knows at this point. My guess is the first one though and I don’t mind. As long as we get there in the end and keep improving.
If we don’t get a couple of effective strikers in we will be bottom end of this league. You cannot choose the rate at which you improve.
Ross Stewart:

Scenario 1 Someone comes in for him in Aug with a low bid, we accept it and he has gone.

Scenario 2 He returns from injury in Sept hopefully plays the remainder of the season, but he refuses to sign the contract bring offered and leaves the club on a free at the end of the season.

Scenario 3 We pay for me the best CF in the Division the difference in what he wants to what the club have offered. He is now under contract, he scores goals, if he leaves in the Summer any club wanting him will have to pay a significant fee for him, or we keep him.

In summary not giving him a new contract will mean we will lose him for nothing. Stewart is a class act get him fit motivated and we might get in the play offs.
Scenario 4

He is crocked

Obviously because he isn’t fit. If he gets fit, scores goals but we can’t agree a new contract with him, he will leave for a free in the summer, which is why I hope the club will do everything they can to get him to sign even it costs us a few extra £k per week. That way we mitigate the risk of losing millions on him in the summer.

Best way to change the funding is to make a sale.
This. The biggest test of the recruitment team will be selling one of our top players and using that money to make the team better overall. Very very hard to do. Brighton seem to manage it but I can't think of many others.

I suspect we'll see this play out next summer.

The funding is going to have to increase at some point if they're serious about getting promotion and the wage bill needs to align eventually with the top 10 of the league I reckon to have a real go.
Won’t happen because fans are not arsed about spending money and being entertained. We would rather just plod along in the championship and run a steady ship just incase we go into administration.

Or so @Blyth would have you believe.

Why does the board not want to spend any of their own money ? Why own a football club if on occasion you are not prepared to take a risk

Our record signing at £13.5M wouldn't even get a 10 goal a season decent top half of championship striker these days.

I was entertained Saturday. I’ve been entertained for the last 2 and half seasons. Have you not? You don’t have to spend huge sums to achieve it, have you learnt nothing from Shorts era?

If you’re happy to overspend, fall foul of FFP and risk the future of then club so be it.

Nobody has suggested over spending, but if you want to progress you have to roll the dice sometimes.
