Speakman and strikers

Is your favourite band Simple Minds? They are not the only scenarios.
Scenario 4 we raise the threshold and every bugger demands some
Scenario 5 he refuses any because he wants to go to Stoke or rangers
Scenario 6 we pay him a fortune and he’s never available through injury

I’ve said the lad can simply refuse to sign the contract, the fact is he is our player until next season. So would you just let Stewart play with no new contract offered and hopefully agreed. If he doesn’t sign and plays and scores goals he will leave for literally nothing is that good business? If he was tied down to a contract at least next summer we would get a significant fee for him.

Tell you what let’s get the lad fit, sod him, keep him on his current contract and lose him for next to nothing in Jan or for literally nothing next summer!

We are averaging the largest gates in the Championship . Better than some Prem. teams. Yet we cannot afford modest outlays for quality. What am i missing ?The cash is coming in ,the crowd want success and are saying as much with the ticket sales. Don't throw away an oportunity to build on this.HTL .
We are losing money weekly. People seem to think we are hoarding money away. Look at the accounts
What is the running cost of the club for a year Including players wages?
More than the income.

Not sure if that comes in one lump mind. You can chop 200k of it for our 6th choice cam signing fee straight off the bat. Rest'll have paid for the uptick in the new contracts.

We need that 8 figure money.
Just what I read online earlier. We were getting 700k and it was going on transfer fees.

Fair comment though may depend on who is ‘valuing’ the players opposed to what funds are available.

I’d also add the caveat that if it does get to the end of the window and we don’t have a striker (I don’t think this will happen fwiw) and Speakman comes out and says there was none available but we don’t need one anyway because we have O’Nien or someone, then he’s making a rod for his own back.

Agree on all that

You’d like to think we aren’t the only club in world football how gets fleeced over a fee when a player moves to Saudi

Your guess is as good as mine, looking at the transfers into the league, the majority are free or 40s and 50s. One or two at 1.5m and one or two at 5ish.

Best way to change the funding is to make a sale.
It's the wage flexibility that needs changing too. A sale wouldn't change that. We have a top striker and won't pay him. We also can't pay what it takes to bring in a top striker. Something has to give.

I’m starting to wonder whether Speakman’s blind spot is signing players who aren’t youngsters

It would imo Al.

Hull sold what's his face for 20m, while they didn't hammer transfer fees last summer, they did wages. Tufan, Tetteh, and Seri among others all on big money, that's how they chose to spend their balance, of course, it didn't work out for them last season and now they have little wiggle room.

20m coming can be placed where ever we choose, if that's wages, fine, but obviously, it's time limited.

Ross Stewart:

Scenario 1 Someone comes in for him in Aug with a low bid, we accept it and he has gone.

Scenario 2 He returns from injury in Sept hopefully plays the remainder of the season, but he refuses to sign the contract bring offered and leaves the club on a free at the end of the season.

Scenario 3 We pay for me the best CF in the Division the difference in what he wants to what the club have offered. He is now under contract, he scores goals, if he leaves in the Summer any club wanting him will have to pay a significant fee for him, or we keep him.

In summary not giving him a new contract will mean we will lose him for nothing. Stewart is a class act get him fit motivated and we might get in the play offs.
Until he proves his long term fitness I wouldn’t offer him an extension. I’m not going to say I wouldn’t want him back in the line up but we held our own without him last season. As it stands he doesn’t really have any bargaining power until fit.
