Speakman and strikers

Mowgli

Striker
Amongst all the frothing over in recent weeks (which I certainly agree sith before the backlash starts). I think any sort of nuance to the whole debate has just disappeared.

Speakman wants to buy strikers, Mowbray has confirmed that we have made several bids for strikers in January and again this summer. It's not exactly Speakmans fault if the funding it takes to get these over the line simply isn't there from the powers that be. He comes out and makes excuses because what can he say without putting the blame on his boss?

Speakman spoke about wanting simms back in january and we were linked this summer but when the fee gets more than a couple of million, he doesn't have the money to bring these players in. We can't even keep our top striker because the club can't agree a deal with him financially for the last 12 months.

The funding is going to have to increase at some point if they're serious about getting promotion and the wage bill needs to align eventually with the top 10 of the league I reckon to have a real go.

Best way to change the funding is to make a sale.

Reading between the lines we will need to generate our own cash over the next few seasons. Buy low, sell high, buy lower, sell higher etc.

Once we have done that cycle a few times we will have the budget to compete.

This also could just be public posturing in the market to make clubs aware that they can’t over charge when dealing with us.

Who knows at this point. My guess is the first one though and I don’t mind. As long as we get there in the end and keep improving.

Pleased someone's finally had the guts to highlight the striker situation.
It's slightly different though. I understand the struggles and not just screaming strikers after every game.

We aren't short by choice or by stubbornness. All the evidence suggests that's we are trying to bring in Stewart level quality strikers and don't have the cash to get them over the line. I wouldn't blame Speakman for that.

Which will cause fumes of epic proportions within the fanbase aswell

Indeed and it'll buy less than what'll be hoped for I imagine.

But if it works then everything is rosey, if it doesn't, hopefully we haven't backed ourself against the wall to a position we can't change the following window.

I don't think the issue is whether the investment will increase, it's where that comes from. So I think it'll increase but only insofar as profits on player sales are made. It'll be a slow burn and people will get frustrated I expect but there we are - it's not going to be big bets.

Lihadji mate ,I cannot believe the Arabs have approached us unless its a decent price .I hope it comes out from their end how much they have paid.Lihadji will be on top dollar there and the fee we have received will reflect that.

As I have no desire to see us ramp up the wage bill to over 100% of revenue I'll beg to differ on your main point.

However, given we're steadily nailing the young lads who have shown the most promise to long contracts I'd guess we are increasing the wage bill and we'll continue to do so as and when our younger lads prove themselves. In line with this policy I'd also guess that if or when Stewart proves his fitness he'll be offered a contract in line with his worth to the side.

Billionaire owner who can't just pump money in and why would they? He's got no affiliation with us but has and will pay fro infrastucture development i.e. construction works that's got nothing to do with FFP.

However, if that isn't happening then yes something is wrong.
