Speakman’s transfer strategy backfired already

Aye.

“Something something model something something process something something system something something sustainable something something look over here while we try to run a Championship club for buttons”.
:) Try and calm down mark
You seem like you’re close to the edge

Surely the point of the reserves is to have players step up when needed. Why bring in a third rate third striker to sit on the bench when we can give a young 'un from the reserves a chance to prove himself.
They obviously don't rate them as they've been no where near the squad? If they aren't good enough then we bring someone in, it's really that simple
It is a team game and shouldn’t be all about one man. Let’s see how it pans out before being over critical. If we struggle for goals/points in the next half a dozen games or so I will be the first to hold my hands up and say I was wrong
Sadly for us I think it's massively about one man. Hopefully you're right and I'm proven to be wrong 🤞

😂😂 lovely, so you just ignore my two questions yeah.

Do players only go to clubs to be first choice do they? Do players only go to clubs if they don’t have a player in that position already? Did we sign a keeper this season despite already having two on the books?

Last season did we have 3 strikers despite only playing one up top? Jesus what magical powers made defoe and Broadhead sign when we had Stewart, it’s amazing, absolute sorcery, we only played one up front yet others signed 😳😳. What a revolution that must have been.

Name names. For what it's worth, the answer may already be in the U21s. Max Thompson. Scored 6 in 2 this season. Maja did the same thing.

Mark, I know you’re highly strung, but we tried to get strikers in. It’s our first season in the champ after 4 in league 1.
Maybe rather than get a striker in who was shit we thought we’d save the money.
We’d have to buy one as doubt a premier team would lend one to be 3rd choice.
People aren’t brainwashed , we’re just not panicking and a bit more level headed, have a better sense of perspective and don’t expect us to spend loads of cash and get into debt so we’re fucked in a couple of seasons and can’t improve the team further

You’ve hit the nail on the head.

Rather than get a striker in, we thought we’d save the money.

Everyone remember to get your (cheap, sustainable) prayer mats out tomorrow, for LND’s scan.

I’m sorry like but just fuck off. No reasonable striker would want to come here knowing he’s 3rd choice regardless.
On that logic no goalkeeper will come knowing he is second choice
no left back would come knowing he was second choice left back etc etc.

So in your vision we only have 11 players because no-one wants to play second fiddle ,what about players who think i'll sign for that big club and when i get my chance i will grab it ? what about injuries ? ,tonight is a prime example ,what about a poor run of form by a player ? when giving the player a break is just as beneficial to the player taken out as it is to the player who gets his chance to prove himself.

Speakman fked up the last window signing Defoe and Stewart not getting injured saved his skin ,this window still no striker cover ,he needs to put a "common sense" program into his computer.

I get what the club are going for and no more journeymen and that he wants to sign up and coming players who could be gems but guess what ? you need to sign them for the positions we need cover for not because of their prospects and potential re-sale value. .

Criminal not bringing a proper striker in . Simms has looked poor also last few games. All this talk of x and y can play up front… Well there is your answer tonight. Where is the new signings? Just one on the bench. Maybe mowbray doesn’t rate them? Maybe they aren’t ready yet but we can’t just build a club on buying young players to sell on. Hopefully just an off night. Whole team was poor. If we are going to look to sell players for profit dan neil should be the first out the door. Heart the size of a pea. Can’t tackle , doesn’t score goals- awful. Embleton not much better. How many shite balls does he put in the box.
The negativity on here is unbelievable, we’ve just been promoted from league one and played against an established championship team. Every club in England are looking for strikers, I think we maybe back of the queue
Learn to walk before running, chill out and keep the faith

How do you attract a decent striker to essentially come and sit on the bench the majority of the time?
A decent striker would displace Simms

Goalkeepers are nutters. Harper sat on Newcastles bench for years without complaining.

Devastating shortage of names there. Admit it, they wouldn't be anywhere near.
How on earth do you expect me to know which strikers are available and would come to Sunderland! Our main striker is injured our second striker isn’t playing great so if had signed a decent striker they would probably have played a part tonight ! So yes people would come. We play two up front! Simms will go back in the summer so if we signed a 3rd striker they would possibly be in first 11 in the summer at the latest. Go and buy a league 1 striker. I’ll say it now chris maguire would probably do better than patrick Roberts upfront! Not that I would want to re-sign him but you catch my drift!

I see you want an unsustainable model

Get to bed mark, you’re making yourself ill

Excellent post. Put it far better than me

You’re wasting your time.

Apparently if you think it’s perfectly normal for a well run club to have at least one back up forward on the books, or to sign some established experienced players for the level it’s moving in to, you’re a “mag”.

That’s the state of the blind desperation to believe we’ve stumbled on some magic formula. True believers only.

We were incredibly lucky Stewart stayed injury free last season.

Only other choice we had was Broadhead and he didn't even play in half of our games.

It's been a problem for three windows and we've been getting away with it until tonight.

Absolutely piss poor planning.

I can’t just name names man ffs. I am not employed by a football club, I don’t have connections or anyone I can ask who is available.

I do however have a job where if I need something I have contacts I can call to ask for things. At what point do we as fans, know or hear names when people are available, if doesn’t work like that.

If I look throughout the whole of England and look at every single player who has gone from club to club, I’d be lucky if I knew 1% of them were available prior to there transfer.

Do you honestly look when we sign someone and in your evident crystal ball, think “yeah knew they were available”. It’s not my job is not a cop out it’s a stone hard fact, I and nobody else works in football or for the club, so there is absolutely no reason why I or anybody should be able to name names.

Now how about you answer my questions now I’ve answered yours.

The problem you've got is signing someone who's happy to come knowing they won't play unless Stewart or Simms are out.
Don't agree really, Simms' position is there for the taking. Any half decent striker would back themselves to push into a starting role. It's really poor not to have another senior striker at the club, I haven't got a clue why people are defending the recruitment team on this.

Obviously tonight it would have made little difference, but we've got a load of games between now and January and injuries, suspension or just poor form will require us to change it up. We've hamstrung ourselves by not having an alternative in the same style as Simms/Stewart. Frustrating, and even more frustrating that it has happened one game after the window closed.
