Striker
We have a young team, there will be ups and downs, at least we have some sort of plan now. The over reaction on here is terrible

Alese, Michut, Ba, Diallo, Bennette, all starting on Saturday then. The transfer strategy is to bring in players capable of playing in the starting eleven...who were we going to get who could challenge Stewart and Simms? We'd have ended up with some shite journeyman and people would have moaned.
Instead we've gone for the hope to fuck both of our strikers don't get injured modelThe transfer strategy is to bring in players capable of playing in the starting eleven...who were we going to get who could challenge Stewart and Simms? Don't think anyone would disagree with that. I like the way we're doing things and broadly happy with the transfer window. Some absolute whoppers on this board mind. We've just come up from league 1, with a very young squad that finished 5th. Were not going to win every game, its going to be a long roller coaster of a season. The recruitment has been excellent, have a young exciting squad, the most exciting squad we've had in a long time, but some people are just itching to post negativity.
Bang on the money, especially with now being able to use 5 subs, another striker was also going to get playing time.I don't care if I am labelled a bed wetter.
When you have two strikers at the club and play both said strikers in the starting 11, to not then have another backup striker is the most backward football thing ever. It absolutely blows mind that Speakman didn't get one.
And the fact we tried to get Broadhead shows he wanted one, so he has clearly failed to manage it in two or three weeks since Broadhead chose Wigan.
If Simms gets a knock now have zero strikers. Mindblown here.

But still, it's as clear as day we've left ourselves desperately short up front and at left back. It's possible to hold both opinions at the same time.
I don't buy the argument that we couldn't have possibly signed someone to challenge Stewart and Simms for a starting position. I think we've gambled and it has almost immediately backfired. That will happen to most clubs no matter what 'model' they follow, but it's a mistake no matter how you dress it up.
Then maybe we should have looked at spending a little on a first team striker then? As pointed out above we were in for Broadhead which suggests the club wanted a third striker. We could have signed someone, but unless you're paying good money for a first team striker, you're probably bringing in another young lad on loan who hasn't played much or an experienced free transfer. They'd be in the exact same boat as the signings we made last week i.e. they'd be lacking game time and would need to adjust. Stewart's injury was terrible timing for us, but I just don't get the rush to judgement. Let's actually see what Diallo and Bennette can offer us. If they're no use to us and Stewart ends up being out for months, then yeah, it was probably a mistake. It's way too early to make those kind of judgements though.
I don't think we're particularly short at left back either. We've got O'Nien, Gooch, Neil and Alese who can all play there. We were never going to sign a specialist left-back back-up.
Its the Experience that is the problem...saying that next season, Experience, still in the Championship would not be a valid excuse, but today, it is. We don't have a great deal in the side.Bang on the money, especially with now being able to use 5 subs, another striker was also going to get playing time.
It is also possible to be both happy with our transfer business generally but critical over not getting another striker and a couple more experienced players in. Which some on this thread can't seem to grasp.
Succession planning.
If we are using this set up, we need a succession plan.
Pritchard has played almost 50 games in the Prem and over 250 in the Championship. Its the Experience that is the problem...saying that next season, Experience, still in the Championship would not be a valid excuse, but today, it is. We don't have a great deal in the side.
It's one hell of a stretch to claim Amad and Clarke are experienced pros like.Pritchard has played almost 50 games in the Prem and over 250 in the Championship.
Batth over 200 Championship games.
Wright 135 Championship games.
Gooch has played in the Prem and Championship before.
Evans over 200 Championship games.
Clarke over 50 Championship games.
Amad has played in Seria A, the Prem and the Scottish Prem, not to mention European competitions.
We have a young squad, but its not like they are all straight out of the youth teams....
He's a Methven style prize plum. @Grumpy Old Man ( that is )I used to respect him, but slowly seen a lot of the board starting to turn. What I’ve seen tonight, has now completely swayed my opinion. As I said I’ve absolutely seen the true colours shine through. 100% thinks he’s better than the vast majority of us, and knows more.
Refuses to acknowledge, debate or even answer a question if it would mean he may be wrong, and to top it off the absolute irony of then acting like this and throwing the toys out the pram.
Grumpy old man, I’m sorry but it comes across entitled young child to me.
For every injury? It is called a squad.Succession planning.

If he's good enough he's old enough, then put him in is the old terminology I believeMax Thompson. Scored 6 in 2 for the U21s.
Brainwashing has, I think, taken placeI still find it absolutely laughable that so many people are claiming it's would have been impossible to sign a striker as no one would sign if they weren't going to be first choice!
When did this become a thing?
We've signed squad players and backup goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders, why should it be so different with strikers? Is it really too much to ask to have 3 players to cover 2 positions??
Then maybe we should have looked at spending a little on a first team striker then? As pointed out above we were in for Broadhead which suggests the club wanted a third striker.
Diallo and Bennette are both wingers so while they may turn out to be excellent signings, they're going to do little in offering a direct alternative for RS/JS. Having someone capable of playing in a similar way to those two would have been extremely helpful for continuity of playing style.
Not having an actual left back limits our ability to switch up the formation too. Out of those listed you'd probably go with Gooch, but we know he's most effective when further up the pitch. Alese will have to be given a chance purely for team balance, but even he's not a left back by trade.
This isn't a reaction to the game last night either, not bothered by that result as shit happens. My worry when the window closed was that we'd left ourselves short at left back, up front and in defensive midfield. The first two issues have immediately cropped up. Let's just hope Evans keeps himself injury free.
