Spain passes law giving menstrual leave

My wife had a hell of a time, didn't stop bleeding for nearly 3 years, tried everything to make things better she hated going to work, from soreness to the needing spare clothes encase she bled through, She changed Doctors and her new one told her she needed a coil fitted, it would help, was shocked to see it did, bloody love that Doc as got the old night time activities started again lol

That law wouldnt have helped my lass, but I guess for the lasses that get it rough monthly be a god send to be able to skip a day or two.

Spain's facing a change of Govt. The ruling party, PSOE, a slightly more radical version of the Blair Govt isn't popular-
The shouts from the right are immigration, the cost of living crisis, the assault on 'Traditional Family Values.''
Pleased that they are putting stuff like this into law.
Machisma , violence against women, the hangover from Franco and the hatred, the subjugation of women by the Catholic chusrch still reverberates over here in a way that people in the uk cannot imagine.
Step by step, poco a poco.
ANIMO!!!

Sounds great in theory, but in practice, most workplaces have piss takers who will take opportunities to have free time off.
Absolutely. Ours called in sick yesterday which I'm sure is in no way related to the fact it's half term next week.

If it’s an ongoing condition, which it can be in some cases, there are official diagnoses available.

If it’s an intermittent occurrence, it’s more like an extension of “duvet days”.

Don’t get how trusting people is foolish as you fundamentally have to have an element of trust with anyone you’re employing.
My missus gets debilitating headaches for a few days each month and has been to the doctors about it a few times and has tried various medication which hasn’t helped. She tends to push on and work but occasionally needs to take a day off…her employers have been great about it tbf. If they ever decided to question it she’d easily be able to get a note from the doctor.

if it is an ongoing condition then the woman will be at a distinct disadvantage in certain workplaces. Small businesses would struggle to accommodate this. colleagues would be pissed off picking up the slack. The only option for me would be flexible working hours and time made up.

I'm sure the big companies could easily absorb the cost and accommodate the adjustments needed.

Flexible working and not taking the piss should always work. People suffer from other conditions and manage.

Hopefully doesn't exclude those who have transitioned to female and find themselves experiencing real and true painful periods.

It’s all great but the reality is If I ran a small business like there’s absolutely nee f***ing way I’d be employing a woman of childbearing age if I could help it. They’d be off having their 2 kids then now period pains till they’re menopausal. Great for large corporates but let’s face it if you’re a small business you just ain’t employing a woman of that age unless she’s brilliant

This is dangerously close to "a woman's place is in the kitchen".

No I know it is which isn’t great but I’m just talking about the practicalities If you run a small business reliant on a few staff. I’ve had this conversation with someone who ran a very successful business selling pressure washers when they took off. Made his million or two. But he was very clear on the issues with employing women in key positions their 20’s and 30’s. It’s not always a wise choice in a small business.

Slightly off topic but I love the idea of trust.

When I lived in Turkey, I lived in a small, family ran hotel. At night, the owner would put the keys to the beer fridge on the table alongside a note pad and say, "write down what you take and whoever is up last, please lock the fridge and put the keys in my docket."

In the six or seven months I lived there, I didn't see one person, young or old, abusing the privilege. It astounded me, like. 😎

Of all the countries to be ahead of the game in recognising female issues and problems at work, Spain wouldn’t have been high on my list. Good for them.
The Spanish sound like a bunch of bloody fannies.

If you’d said ‘half of them’ you’d have achieved near-accuracy as well as vulgarity and attempted-wit. 😃

Sounds like a good idea, I can see it impacting on promotion opportunities if someone was to be taking leave for this kind of thing often though.
