Spain passes law giving menstrual leave

You have the only thing you know about them is the ages. So that would be age discrimination. Im agreeing with you the 35 year old should get preference.
My point all along is being against age discrimination for the sake of it. Fair play should come into it in as well though. So one job, two people, give it to the 35 year old. That's completely different to wholesale rejection of older people because they are old. Which you appear to favour.

You've been arguing a point you don't even agree with and went on to massively contradict yourself. I've never said i support wholesalsle rejection at all, i said it was understandable and a better business decision in certain instances where more investment was going to be given to the employees with training, courses etc. The example you've provided is more discrimatory.

Also Spain has loads and loads of 15 min cities and towns, where you can get all your amenities within easy walking distance

And loads of work place rights

And loads of people wanting to work there
It has the highest youth unemployment rate in EU at 32.3% In October 22. Worse than Greece.
It also has the highest unemployment rate at 13.1%
Are these figures fake news?

You said ageism is nonsense. In other words you think age discrimination is fine and older people shouldn't be given a job. Then you quoted a daft example to back up what you said. An example that won't happen in the real world. There is only one circumstances where age should come into it which I stated. Job shortages and a very old person applying for that one job. Not the wholesale rejection of older people favoured by you.

Slightly off topic but I love the idea of trust.

When I lived in Turkey, I lived in a small, family ran hotel. At night, the owner would put the keys to the beer fridge on the table alongside a note pad and say, "write down what you take and whoever is up last, please lock the fridge and put the keys in my docket."

In the six or seven months I lived there, I didn't see one person, young or old, abusing the privilege. It astounded me, like. 😎
It's easier in life to afford people trust and then readjust when they let you down, it will be only a small minority.

Most of my head injuries are the result of PMDD...men have it easy.

Southern Spain is notorious for people working on the fiddle and not declaring anything they earn whilst also claim the dole which is 70% of your base salary from your last job for up to two years.

Worker conditions and rights are not as good as the other poster mentioned and people are not wanting to work here

In instances very much so. It's like comparing apples to pears particularly in areas where there is a huge seasonal tourist industry. Or in agricultural areas.
Around here, out of season, lots works hard on their small holdings, avocados currently a huge cash crop, along thier allotments with a few sheep and goats, the odd pig and then pick up cash in season, rarely (cough cough) declared, as bar tenders, back of house staff, waiters, cleaners, gardeners, managing house rentals (with all that entails), pool cleaners, airport pick ups, and the list goes on and on.
And officially, particularly out of season, they often register as unemployed.
Lots of the jobs in the service industries are cash in hand.
The trick at best seems to be to work in something where you are registered for 6 months a year which entitles you to 6 months unemployment benefit, then rinse and repeat.
So huge askance at the figures you quote
And this is a derailment of the thread. Well done! I bit.

The recent law also covers the rights of young women to gain access to abortion without the permission of their parents and, as I believe, the father. It also covers trans rights etc. The Grauniad did a very sketchy article recently.
Its worthy of further research.Especially on how women were treated historically and how those attitudes persist.

It was very noticeable when we were in Perth/Western Australia in December how most of the staff in bars and hotels were Spanish. They seem to have replaced the Brit backpackers/gap year brigade post-Covid.

In Southern Spain, perhaps.
Naaaah, its pretty much the same further north and will likely get worse with the change of the paye autonomo contributions.

I've already experienced self employed people seeking more "black money" and taking more risks. That's a slightly different scenario to what you're describing, obviously, but either way, it's encouraging people to work illegally. Our business autonomo will likely more than double. Something has to give.

Spain have realised that they are in competition from lots of countries around the world for the best workers.

And that the countries who can consistently attract the best workers will have the fastest growing economies

And that offering better terms and conditions are a relatively cheap way to get the best and brightest to commit to working there.

We, however, still believe that the world owes us a living

it doesn't
@HerdnMulhall

This was the post I was questioning and why I posted the figures and asked the question. This statement and the unemployment figures don’t marry up.

Several men have said if they had a small business, they would refuse to employ women of child bearing/menstrual age. I'm sorry you felt it was a personal attack as it wasn't.

Business can also be affected by disabled people or people with long term illnesses who may need time off for sickness. If they are happy to employ disabled/long term illness people but refuse to employ women as they might have maternity or menstrual time off, then it is sexist.
Also, you can't tell by looking who is going to have babies or period issues. I look like I could have a baby or be having periods but I no longer have the equipment to do either. If someone didn't employ me because they thought I might take advantage of maternity/menstrual leave, then they've made a decision based on something that is never going to happen.

I have misunderstood you, Becs, and I apologise.
I have no desire to upset anyone on here and I can see that since I last looked, the thread has become a bit heated.
For that reason I'll bow out now, sorry again.

You didn't have to do that man but I appreciate it. You're one of my faves on here and I'm glad there's no bad feelings. Love and hugs xx

Oh wow! That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me on here!

Thanks Becs, Love and hugs to you as well. You're one of my faves too and about the last person on here I'd want bad feelings with! That will never happen. Your lovely reply demonstrates why you're so popular on here. ❤️
