They fail almost every time they have to play decent opposition at a major tournament. It would be bonkers to get rid of someone who’s been relatively so successful! The team is a rub of the green away from a title Imo.

I'd go for Thomas Tuchel. He's proven at winning things.
I think he'd be brave and make the right tactical decisions and the right times.
His record on paper looks good (Southgate this is) but ultimately he fails everytime when it truly matters.
He wasn’t at the time he was taken off.
Nevertheless, we could look at some of the world’s best coaches and they’d probably fall at a similar stage. Has Guardiola, who is considered the best, done particularly well on the European stage in knock out football? How many attempts has he had with superb quality at his disposal without victory? Has Pochettino got any of his clubs over the line in European knock out football?
Fact of the matter is, we’ve possibly four players that would definitely get into the starting XIs of top international sides. That means quarter finals to finals is our level. We’ve achieved that and got within a kick of a trophy under Southgate.
I think he might have reached his shelf life, that happens under all managers, and I think it’s the right time for a change because any slip up will turn toxic sharpish. But I’m far from convinced that any coach in world football is going to come in and improve our fortunes markedly
I think there’s a broader context than that. Italy was the stinger and the one I think he will have regrets over and deserved at least some level of criticism. At the time we played Croatia we had developed in 18 months from a team that had been humiliated by Iceland to a w/c semi where we were narrowly but deservedly beaten by a better side. France similarly we lost to the world champions in a great game. It’s not serial failure it’s consistently good performance. He fucked up v Italy & fucked v France
We look better but Southgate is a defence first manager cautious by approach
With that squad we should be doing better
“First decent team” yesYes we did but would you really class them as an elite team these days.
Hardly a kop out. Do you think we’ll win a tournament under Southgate?
I think it’s more of a kop out to be “happy with our lot” considering it’s the best set of players we’ve had for a long time.
Wilson instead of MountI think he fucked v Croatia and Italy but not sure about France. How did he fuck it up?
I’d agree with that but I think it’s worth trying. Our aim has to be to win a trophy and I think three tournaments is a fair crack of the whip.
Another kop out.
At least Be Here Now has the balls to post his idea of a solution.
If I had to choose I’d go for Tuchel or Potter. Nothing to do with now having balls mate - I’m talking football on a message board to strangers. Nice dodge of the question I asked though.

So you think Wilson and Maddison should have come on v France?Wilson instead of Mount
Maddison hasn’t featured
He has his golden boys & is very predictable
See my previous response re Tuchel. As for Potter...Just desperation to find a name.
I’m no fan of Mount but if you are only on the pitch 12 minutes and win the penalty which should have saved the match for us it’s hardly a bad sub.Wilson instead of Mount

It’s only four years in the job however. Expectations were so low in 2018 and he got us to a semi final. Regardless of the draw, that was an achievement. Expectation increased for the Euros and we lost by a kick in a shootout. And we’ve just been beaten by the world’s best. I think one more tournament would be a fair crack of the whip but I fear him staying on is going to lead to some real media and fan toxicity.
I’m delighted. He’s a fine person who has nurtured a national side that I’m proud to support.
Or trying an alternative to see if it works.
