Southgate confirmed to stay.

In an interview with the Times GS said he would sit round the dinner table with his family and discuss whether he should continue with his £5m per annum job. I wonder what was the deciding factor in his decision to stay on?

Well he’s unlikely to ever get a job in the EPL (unless he gets a championship club promoted) so who can blame him.

Should have gone after the Italy debacle, but can understand why the FA wants to keep him.
Hopefully he can go one better at the next Euros and win it.

A more tactical manager wouldn’t, his set up in the Croatia Semi and Italy Final was appalling, didn’t attack either game.

Just feels like an easy choice for the FA, a steady manager who won’t bring any controversy and is a yes man.

I disagree. I think he allows player to express their views and that he very much believes in them. He back and supports his players and in turn they respect, admire and play for him.
He’s exactly the type of fella we need at the helm of the national side.

I’m no way aiming this at you, but I highly expect the people who want him out so strongly, want him out for his inclusiveness than they do of their perception of his so called negative tactics.

Can't see who's readily available, he's done enough to see out his contract and give the fa 2 years to pick the right man
Exactly. Nobody will give be you an answer on this at all.
Because he doesn't have the roy Keane stare or a thick Glasgow accent are my opening suggestions

People forget the form we came into the World Cup with and the debacle Nations League campaign we had, I was at the San Siro the night England were boo’ed off 2 games before the WC.

Also the Hungary home game where we were butchered. It just feels like he stutters at the key moments. I’ll admit he’s done well for England after the Euro 2016 nightmare however it just feels like he’s taken us as far as he can

I'm not so sure on it. i think he's had an easy draw throughout the last 2 major tournaments. In the euros he had the benefit of playing on home soil and an easy passage to final (even germany was on decline as has been proven) and we played poor in the final against italy. 2018 world cup was another easy passage and we went out to croatia and again played poorly. this world cup fair enough we were unlucky against france but they seemed there for the taking at times and we never looked great in final 3rd.

granted england were looking poor when he took over but i believe we are going through the early stages of another golden generation. his in game management is very poor for england standard.

id honestly take pochettino who i think would work well for the type of side england has
Potchetino the serial failure?

And you say we played poor in the final, would you have said that if we won on pens?

Yeah there’s been dodgy games ( happens to the best ) but I think when it matters he’s done really well and deserves another chance.
For all people like to criticise the Italy game, he was a shoot out away from winning it.
Personally I’m glad he’s staying but do see how people think a change may have been the right move now.

Breaking news from Telegraph. If true which I imagine it will be, then it’s great news and well done the FA for getting him to stay on.
Great news, my anus. He is boring, negative and likes to play over sixties walking football. He has failed to beat any decent opposition in major tournaments because of it. The players must be too willing to accept failure because they want him to stay. I suspect that is because he is weak and they get an easy time of it. He will never win anything except a taking the knee competition.

Exactly. Italy missed two, we missed three.
England haven't been as good as this since 66, yet people still act like its a bad period. We had Hodgson with Kane taking corners and us losing to Iceland before Southgate. Went out of the world cup in the group stage under Capello. Didn't even qualify for the euros under McClaren, and with Sven we never got past the quarter finals in a tournament.
Keegan was shite before Sven as well.

Beat Croatia and Germany in the last euros like

Does many people really care about the nations League? It’s on par with the Europa conference league for me.

You’re the bloke who said Harry Kane was a flash in the pan actually aren’t you. Says it all.

It was penalties against Italy. We were literally a touch of luck from Southgate probably being revered as a legend. It’s all ifs and buts not but the bloke got us within a Fanny’s hair of a winning the euros. More that anyone else has managed
